I've been reading the book, " It's not just growing pains " by Dr.

Lehman, have any of you read it yet? I am still rereading

parts of it to fully absorb its content. All in all, I have found

the book to be extremely helpful and would certainly encourage the

group to read the book too.

When I first started reading the book I thought, " oh my, so much of

this stuff doesn't even pertain to JRA " . Several chapters cover

specific rheumatic diseases other then JRA. But, once reading about

these other conditions I saw the link, which in turn expanded my

overall knowledge base.

I guess what I like most about the book is twofold, it provides

specific facts (symptoms, conditions, labs, prognosis) about each

condition in a very clear manner which does go into the " possible

why " test are run and symptoms appear. I found this to be very

helpful. The second is throughout the book, the author offers quotes

that lighten up a very heavy and sometimes depressing topic. I

absolutely LOVE a quote used on pages 263-264. I would not do it

justice to paraphrase it here, but will tell you it referred to how

it's difficult to give all these medicines to your child knowing the

possible side effects. It is a wonderful quote which helped me see

things through a different light.

I saw the negatives about the book as at times, the author makes some

general statements. Examples of this were when referring to lab

work, I know each lab is different so this may be the reason for the

general statement. The author refers to high and low numbers, wbc

and other labs....a general high or low number would have been

helpful.

I hope everyone is doing well.
