Guest guest
Hi Helen, Sounds like Nick and are 2 peas in a pod.The pool now rules over Emla so he doesn't use it anymore but last Wednesday he wanted Emla for his big Enbrel shot.Within 30 minuites everyone was getting in the pool and he wanted his shot then and there.Didn't feel squat or the pain of shots has always been in his head and he is so used to it they just don't bother him anymore. When he gets labs he just jumps in the chair sticks out his lft arm and says"butterfly".This last time they didn't have any, they used the grand daddy of needles. He just loves to watch those vials bubble up and laughs and giggles,we have to hold his arm still sometimes he gets to laughing so hard.I hate blood draws and get light headed just watching him. He's never used Emla on labs and says all he feels is a little prick when the needle goes in, with shots he can feel the medicine go in(without Emla) nothing with it. Did Nick practice giving shots before you let him do it himself? wanted to do his last MTX shot and I paniced. He is only getting .1ml or that very first line so I should let him try.He will be 6 next Saterday and alot of diabetics are taught to do it themselves at that age.I'm thinking about doing what I did and get 2 extra syringes and an orange and letting him get a feel as to how much pressure to put on the syringe. Guest guest
Thanks Helen, I think I will head to Bilo today and get some syringes and a couple oranges. When I practiced I pumped them up with so much water they were ready to explode.Luckily Bilo has a small pharmacy and the same two pharmacists for the last 3 years. has his own box of 100 syringes with his name on it and 25 cents.I can't believe we are on our 3rd box already and have never had to bring in a new script.Usualy they are only good for a year.I tell them how many I need and they never question me,even when I started buying 2 for each Enbrel shot. Wish us luck and thanks for the b-day wish. Love and Hugs Becki and 5systemic

Guest guest
Becki.. Yeap, Nick and ARE two peas in a pod!!! and they will be the same ages for a few weeks )) At 1st I just let Nick push the plunger once i had stuck him, then he said he wanted to do it all So I got an orange and a cup of water and let him suck up the water and stick the orange. he did it hundreds of times. I showed him the angle and how much to stick in. its not easy for Nick because his hands are always soo shaky. His hands are not good... he doesnt have swelling, but he just cant do much with them and fine motor stuff is the toughest. he did a few shots, but now just prefers me to do them. Once in a while he says he will do it and I ask each time. I would let do it... I think it really helps them feel in control of their disease, THEY are in charge. Very empowering. of course im right there besides Nick and would never let him just go off with the syringe and do it himself. will be an old pro in no time ))) have a great trip and I want to be the 1st to wish DAVID A VERY HAPPY 6TH BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!
