It has a strong taste so I take the capsules. Check with your DR first to make sure it won't react badly with meds. You can get it in most health food sections. Guest guest
Hi Alia, Poor Caroline, how awful to have bug bites on your eyes. I don't know if the MTX or steroids have anything to do with it.I do know from past experiance that the younger the child the more reaction. and Shelby when they were smaller would have awful reactions and every year they got older the reaction became less and less. They used to get big red hives with the white centers and Shelby was about Carolines age when she got an infection. They now just get the usual looking bites. There isn't much you can do other then be careful in the mornings and evenings.Wear light colored clothes and apply the DEET to hair and clothes and skin and take the night time bath to wash it off.My kids love Benadryl spray for the itchies but you can't use if they scratch and open it up. Give Caroline a hug from us. Becki and 5 systemic
Guest guest
-UGHH!! Sorry Alia, The mosquitos are bad this year..Nick has had 100's of bites but no reactions ( thank goodness) The bites do look a little more puffy than they use to, but soon calm down. I do wonder if having an immune system disease does have something to do with it..remember last Dec when Nick reacted badly to the Ammox he was given for the strep?? his whole face swelled up. He had had ammox before with never a problem, but this was his 1st doses since getting JRA. I think the kids react to things differently post JTA DX than they did pre dx, if that makes sense. I think it might have something to do with Carolines age too..>> i really believe that one has to build up a kinda of immunity to the blighters. When I 1st moved to the States I had never been bitten by a mosquito in my life.. I was 26, that 1st summer was AWFUL, they swelled up like balloons.. so big that they ended up all running into each other. it took forever too for them to settle down. Each year after that my reaction was less and less.. now im just like every other Tom, Dick and Harry when im bit!!!! heres hoping that things settle down for Miss C soon... Guest guest
Hi Alia: Poor Caroline:( All from darn mosquitos! I haven't had any bad experiences like this with my girls, but just wanted to drop a line that I hope she feels better soon. Sounds like a real good thing she was on antibiotics at the time. What about the rest of the summer though? Did they recommend anything besides the antihistamine? Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Hey Patty. It is kind of a bummer. I can't believe those pesky things would actually be so pesky! I just don't remember her having all this trouble last year! I hope the rest of the summer (what we have of one!) is ok. They told us to find a bug spray with 30% deet in it. I am tempted to check out that clothing line that is supposed to repel mosquito's! Alia and Caroline, age 2, poly and uveitis Re: Mosquito's Hi Alia: Poor Caroline:( All from darn mosquitos! Guest guest
Thanks Becki!! It pretty much sucks, but we live in Minnesota where the mosquito has been dubbed our horary state bird! We'll keep our fingers crossed and the bug spray out. I think we are going to try to get one of those foggers to spray the yard with. Guest guest
I hope Caroline feels better soon. I had the eye thing happen to me as a kid - I remember it being rather scary not to be able to open my eyes. Antihistimine did help a lot. About the bug spray stuff, I have found that a product from Avon, SSS Bug Guard Plus Expedition, works really well. It does not have DEET in it, but I use it all the time when I garden and the girls I coach use it all the time out in the field. Works very well. Comes in both aerosol or pump. I often use the pump type at my house, since has asthma too and the aerosol can cause an attack. Just a thought, and I hope her swelling goes down quickly!
