How does this work?Do youknow what it does to the body in order to be able to

" support " the immune system. I know we have been told not to use anything that

" boosts " the immune system, as this disease is that of any overactive immune

system and these " boosts " may make it worse. ie, echinacea, etc. How does an

immune support differ and has it helped Jordon? I am interested in anything

natural that can compliment our meds. I, too, try to buy more natural snacks,

etc.

I have been giving this to Jordan for a long time. Just curious as to

whether anyone else here has tried it. :-)

Hi! It is NOT an immune system booster. It is supposed to be the

nutrient that the immune system uses in normal function. So if you

have too little of this your immune stystem would not be able to

function properly. Here is a little from the site copy and pasted.

<<Question

What is Moducare®?

Answer

Moducare® is a patented blend of plant sterols and sterolins in a

clinically proven ratio of 100:1 that works to restore, strengthen and

balance your body's immune system. Plant sterols and sterolins are

natural substances found in all fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds.

These plant nutrients have many unique health benefits. Unfortunately,

we rarely get enough plant sterols and sterolins from our diets. The

simplest way to get optimum amounts of these very beneficial natural

compounds is by taking Moducare® .

Question

Is Moducare® an immune " booster " like echinacea?

Answer

No. Echinacea stimulates the immune system and is not recommended for

prolonged use or for people with autoimmune conditions. Taken daily,

Moducare® begins to restore, strengthen and balance the body's immune

system.>>

This is from another site concerning plant sterols and sterolins..

<<Plant (phyto) sterols and sterolins are plant " fats " present in all

fruits and vegetables. They are biologically active molecules isolated

from plants called " phytochemicals " that have been clinically proven

to significantly modulate the effects of the immune system. Following

ingestion, sterols are found in the tissues of healthy people. The

sterolins (glucosides) " activate " the sterols. Both are needed and

work together to enhance immune function. The potent plant sterol and

sterolin combination in RevivAllTM Classic contains powerful immune

modulating plant nutrients which can help balance your delicate immune

system. Without sterols and sterolins in our diet, the immune system

may become too stressed to produce enough invader fighting T-cells or

may over produce cells responsible for the autoimmune response. A

stressed or compromised immune system can lead to the following health

challenges: frequent colds or flu, herpes (cold sores) outbreaks,

allergies, chronic and continual fatigue, candida yeast overgrowth,

painful joints and muscles, parasitic infections, psoriasis and

eczema, and inflammatory disorders. Some of the richest sources of

sterols and sterolins are found in seeds. Organic seeds, the embryonic

life force of plants, contain vital immune enhancing factors used by

the world's healthiest cultures for thousands of years.

Reducing Autoimmune response

Our body's immune system is like a production line in a factory. Every

step in the process is dependent on every other step. Illness,

viruses, and infections create an imbalance by suppressing our TH-1

cells. TH-1 cells control the TH-2 cell's release of chemicals (IL4,

IL6, and IL10), which enhance the activity of B-cells. B-cells produce

antibodies that attack invaders outside the cell walls. Overactive

B-cells are thought to be responsible for debilitating and chronic

autoimmune disorders such as Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Multiple

Sclerosis (MS), Myasthenia Gravis (MG), allergies, asthma, and many

others. Studies have shown that a pro-inflammatory IL6 and TNF-a

chemicals produced by the TH-2 cells are " switched off " when the cells

are cultured in the phytosterols and sterolins such as those in

RevivAllTM Classic. Scientists monitoring the tests of phytosterols

and sterolins believe that plant fats have the ability to actually

" turn off " the factors that can initiate the inflammatory process. Dr.

, N.D., says that he uses sterols and sterolins to support

his patient¹s endocrine systems because plant fats are especially

useful for treating autoimmune diseases which cause metabolic

breakdowns.

Anti-Inflammatory: Phytosterols and Sterolins have been shown to be

effective in carrying out anti-inflammatory activity at sites where

chronic inflammation is present. By blocking the abnormal production

of inflammatory proteins, sterols and sterolins can inhibit

inflammatory conditions. They decrease the blood levels of cortisol.

Studies show significant reduction of inflammation in rheumatoid

arthritis sufferers. Trials are continuing on RA.*>>L

I can't say if it's actually helped Jordan or not but it can't hurt

and I'm big on diet and a healthy body. I do think it helps but can't

say for sure. I will also say that elderberry is also a booster and I

gave Jordan an immune supplement to help fend off colds and that may

have been the trigger that started the journey from 1 to 5 joints in

the past 6 months. :-( So now I'm very careful to research everything

I give her. This is ok for those with autoimmune diseases other than

diabetes and possibly MS. Not reccomended for those who have just had

a tissue or marrow transplant either. Hope that helps! It's not

cheap but it's not rediculous either.

I don't know what others are going to reply, but are you giving him

this under doctor supervision (with their OK??). Is it approved for

children??

The caution statement that said not to use if diabetic (autoimmune

disease) or MS (autoimmune disease) SCARES me.

This is just my knee-jerk reaction and I don't claim to be expert in

alternative medicines, but I am very wary of the herbal stuff.

Hi Stacia! I did mention this to my dr and was told as long as it was

not an immune booster it was ok. Anyway to double check I'll call his

nurse tomorrow and have her check it out more for me and let you know

what I find out. Certainly better safe than sorry. (may be too late

though) Jordan (girl btw LOL) has been getting new joints but that

started when I was giving her a vitamin that had elderberry in it and

I didn't know that was a booster. The plant sterols/sterolins are not

supposed to be boosters. I don't know why the warning about ms but

the warning for diabetes is that your medication needs might change

and you could get low blood sugar. But like I said, I'll call the

nurse and see if she can just double check this for me and report back

to everyone.
