-HI Missy,

Have you noticed Tyler eating else than he was before the MTX?? has

he been complaining of tummy problems.

My only did 3 weeks of oral MTX before swtiching to the

injectable. IM not sure if he was lossing weight, but he had only

gained 1/2lb since the last rheumy visit 4 weeks prior. THis suprised

the doctor as she expected more because of the prednisone and the

extra eatting he was doing. So perhaps his weight loss might have

been more had it not been for the prednisone.

Since switching to the injections, Nick has had no problems stomach

wise and had never been so good.

I would like to add though that you wont get a true picture of his

actual weight loss until hes weighed on the same scales as he was for

the 73lb reading. Each scale is different and can be off sometimes

upto 10lbs.

Talk to your rheumy and see what they suggest.

Good luck and dont worry if you have to switch to injections, it

really is not as bad as you think. Weve only done 4 and each one is

eaiser than the last.

and I thought he was looking as if he was losing weight. I had the

nurse at school weigh him today(figured her scale would be more

accurate than mine) and he has gone from 73 pounds to 67 pounds.

That's 6 pounds in 4 weeks. He's is 4ft7in. and very tall and thin to

begin with, so losing 6 pounds is alot for him. Has anyone else

experienced weight loss with the Mtx? I have a call into the dr. to

see if we need to switch to Injection (yikes) to see if they will not

upset his stomach so, or if I need to give him Ensure or Boost or a

supplement. I hope I am not being overly concerned. I would love to

loss 6 pounds but for him I worry.

Helen,

Thank you for the information. I hope we can figure it out.

Tyler hasn't eaten anything different, and he has complained that he just

doesn't feel like eating on the 3 days after Mtx.

We will keep you posted. Thanks for the injection encouragement.

Hi Missy I wouldn't worry about 6 lbs in 4 weeks,

from my own experience loss loss was common.

So long as he is eating and doesn't continue to

lose more weight.

But if you really feel the need for concern, then contact his doctor on

the matter..

Hi, Missy. I never really thought about it, but has lost a lot of

weight since starting the MTX. Even though he has grown over 3 inches

since starting. I did take him to his ped for a check up and asked if it

was ok. She said as long as he is not doing it on purpose - he eats

like a horse, so that is not the case! - it was ok. I guess it could be

from the med. Plus, he is more active now than before he took the MTX

because he can move better. I keep an eye on it, and make sure I mention

it to the drs when he goes in. has asked about taking a protein

supplement, so we will talk with his rheumy on his next visit. Good

question - I am going to research a bit and see if weight loss is a side

effect. Michele (16,pauci & spondy)

Mtx and Weight Loss

Hello all,

I have a question. Tyler has been on the oral Mtx. for 4 weeks now and I

concerned. I would love to loss 6 pounds but for him I worry.

Thanks for listening and any advice would be appreciated.
