Becki:Rob was having tummy troubles and I started him on Zantac on my own. This was after he had been on naproxen and azulfidine, both of which are very hard on the stomach. Last year Passo switched him to Prilosec after he had hemoccult stool testing and one came back positive for blood. He has been on the Prilosec since then and he is still doing fine. I myself take OTC Zantac because I was having heartburn all the time with the arthritis meds. I rarely if ever have heartburn now after starting the Zantac. Gastritis is inflammation of the stomach lining, and in my opinion, most of our kids need some sort of stomach protection with all the harsh meds they are on. The gastritis can heal once the irritation is removed.

Just a quick note on gastritis. My son who does not have JRA does have gastritis and yes it can be severe. Currently we are on our 6th day of vomiting and if not better by tomorrow the gastro doc wants to do an ultrasound. He has been quite miserable, yesterday was a better day and I hope today even better. The doc upped his tummy med (prevacid) so hopefully we can avoid more tests and possible surgery. For those who endure this I believe it should taken as any serious diagnosis. I hope fels better soon Becki...and hey April 3 will soon be here!!! ..if I can do anything tohel let me know....hugs and smiles to all...Donna

Donna,

Sorry to read your son has been vomiting all week, that has to be so hard for him. I hope today is a better day and he starts to improve. Hopefully you can avoid tests and surgeries.
