Guest guest
Well first of all Happy Birthday ne welcome to the world of double digits.. As for the Sulfasalazine I was on that for two months and became allergic to it. Not to deter you but watch out for an allergic reaction as of Sulfa the main component of sulfasalazine has a tendency to cause problems in people.. Strange thing is it was really helpful to my joints but it caused me to throw up everyday. I hope they figure out the problem with the hives.. Good luck' (poly JRA and Spondy, 19)
Guest guest
Hi Kim, The rash dissapearing is a good sighn I would think.s is gone too.I don't know what we would have done if he had become allergic to his miricle drug. Threre is always something.Even though has been perfect for over a year he is still on some pretty heavy immune altering drugs.Every infection could turn out to be a whopper.Every little normal childhood ache or pain requires 20 questions. You treasure every pain free moment but wonder when it will all end. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I'm going to pass this info onto the Rheumy. We can't do allergy testing until ne gets off the predisone but this info will help. n is in our prayers . Kim (ne 10 poly) > Kim, n's systemic rash has always itched. With this last flare she got the rash so bad that it looked like someone had whipped her back. It was covered by welts. At our last rheumy appt. we also met with a ped. dermatologist. He said that she had something called dermagraphia, which is a type of hives. It may come and go, it may stay a few months or forever. So he put her on 10mg zyrtec to be taken twice a day for three months. I can't tell if it is working for she went on prednisone at the same time, so the rash and itching are gone. It kind of makes sense to me for three years ago I started getting hives wherever my skin was exposed to the cold. I still get it today. Anyway, he said this dermagraphia is common in teenage girls. (n, 15, systemic) > Sulfasalazine / Rash > > > Hi everyone: First of all I would like to thank and Becky for responding to my last email about ne's cough. We have since got that to stop after finally going through the Rhemy and not the Ped. I've been kind of frustrated with the Ped because she just doesn't know anything about JRA and I just don't feel like she is listening. At the same time she is the one who diagnosed ne so fast, I hate to say anything bad about her > > We had another rough two weeks here and had to take ne back to her Rhemy. Her knees still are hurting badly and now she is getting a rash which comes and goes but itches really bad. The Rhemy finally had put her on a Disaese Modifer so I wanted to ask if anyone could give me some information about it. She is taking 500 mg of Sulfasalazine and soon will be taking 1000 then 1500. We were at the appoint for almost two hours so I didn't really get to ask much about the medication, only heard about the side effects. If this doesn't work then we are on to the Methotrexate so I am really hoping this will do the trick. > > The rash the Rhemy thinks is a type of hive that ne is getting. Has anyone else experienced this? She has never had anything like this until now with the JRA. We are going to do allergy testing once she gets weaned off the predisone but until then we are just giving her benedryal. > > Any input would be greatly appreciated regarding the rash and Sulfasalazine. Thanks so much for sharing all of your " stories " and lives. It really helps us frustrated parents who don't have anyone to talk to that really understands. > > Kim & ne (Just turned 10 yesterday) (poly jra) > >
Guest guest
Thanks for your info. Actually ne has had great results with the sulfasalazine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she doesn't get a bad reaction and that we can continue her on this. I finally got to see my daughter run for the first time since October. We went to the YMCA where we ususally just swim but she wanted to go to the kids club and play. She played basketball, volleyball and even got on the scooters. I watched from upstairs and actually cried. It was just overwhelming to finally see her do some " normal " things for a change. This disease just really does suck ! I hope your tests went well. I know I read that you were having them done. If not yet than good luck. Your are in my thoughts and prayers. Guest guest
Becky: Thanks for your support. The rash has gone for now. ne has only had it one other time and that was when she was first diagnosed. It has just been really weird but what isn't with JRA? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she can stay on the Sulfasalazine and that the rash dissappears for good. She seems to be really good for now Good luck with . I know from reading everything in the past that you have had many obstacles to hurdle over. Doesn't it seem like we just get over one and than another one jumps out in front of us? I used to think that I had a nice normal life, actually kind of boring and than one thing after another hit. I have been on a rollercoaster for almost two years now with ne being diagnosed with JRA the last. JRA has to be the biggest rollercoaster I think any of us can ever experience. I'm just really glad to have found all of you for nobody seems to understand as well, including close friends and family. Thanks for being there. Kim (ne 10 poly) > Hi Kim, > A very tricky situation. The Sulfasalazine could be causing the hives.Any new > medication can cause them. is on Benadryl too.He received his Enbrel shot > last Friday night and woke up Saterday covered in huge hives. He had been on > Enbrel for so long they realy didn't think that was the culprit. He is getting > much better now.Acute hives is very common but can be very tricky to find the > culprit.Alot of people are allergic to sulfa drugs so I hope it's not the new > med but if it is you will know what kinds of things to stay away from. > I hope the hives dissapear as quickly as they came. > Hugs > Becki and 5 systemic
