Guest guest
Hi Donna, There's a complete text article in pdf format at the following website. Aside from that, you'll find, below, a few very brief descriptions from around the web. Aloha, Georgina MR Imaging of Pellegrini-Stieda Disease Radiation Medicine: Vol. 17 No. 6, 405–409 p.p., 1999 See a pdf file at: http://www.nv-med.com/rm/1706/170601.pdf ----------------------------------------------------- Pellegrini – stieda syndrome http://www.amershamhealth.com/medcyclopaedia/Volume%20III%201/PELLEGRINI%20%20ST\ IEDA%20SYNDROME.asp (Augusto Pellegrini, born 1877, Italian surgeon and Alfred Stieda, 1869–1945, German surgeon), ossification of the medial collateral ligament of the knee, such as occurs after trauma. On radiographs arcuate or curvilinear radiodense deposits are seen adjacent to the medial femoral condyle ----------------------------------------------------- DISEASE DE Pellegrini-stieda http://www.echo.uqam.ca/mednet/francais/hermes_f/genou/geno_11.html * What the disease of Pellegrini-Stieda? Is this something that a family practitioner must know? Sometimes, when there is a tear of the collateral ligament interns close to its insertion on the fémur, a secondary hématome is calcified and this area remains sensitive and painful. It is the disease of Pellegrini-Stieda. One notices the zone of calcification to radiography. Of course, it is absolutely not necessary for a general practitioner to know this pathology, but as one likes all to launch a name from time to time interesting once, and than this one is marvellous, I thought of mentioning it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Pellegrini-Stieda disease http://www.whonamedit.com/synd.cfm/2671.html Also known as: Köhler-Pellegrini shadow Köhler-Stieda-Pellegrini syndrome Pellegrini's disease Pellegrini's syndrome Stieda's fracture Stieda's lesion Stieda-Pellegrini disease Synonyms: Calcific haematoma of knee syndrome; knee, medial collateral ligament calcification syndrome; particular knee calcification syndrome Associated persons: Alban Köhler Augusto Pellegrini Alfred Stieda Description: Ossification of the superior portion of the medial collateral ligament of the knee, sometimes occurring as a complication of athletic injuries. Clinically there is swelling, pain, and limitation of motion of the joints with tenderness on pressure over the internal condyle of the femur. Several weeks after the initial swelling, a calcified mass may be palpated in the region of the medial collateral tibial ligament. It occurs at any age. It is roentgenologically demonstrable besides the tibian side of the condylus femoris: Stieda's shadow or Köhler-Pellegrini shadow. Bibliography: * A.
