Guest guest
Hi : Thank you for your reply. Caitlin's medication was changed to the Lodeine and Protonix. Unfortunately, the Lodeine made her gag and vomit:( She said it tasted disgusting. She can't swallow pills so we crush them into some pudding. This one was huge too! I called the rheumy, yet again, to see if she can go back on Naproxen with the Protonix in case of tummy pain. So now she is back on Naproxen and can take Protonix if needed. The Protonix is a pill that you can't crush or cut though, so I am not sure how she'll get it down even though it's coated. How did Rob do on the Naproxen? Did he have problems with constipation with it? If so, what did you use to help him? A question for everyone. How do you know when to try to take them off the anti-inflammatory/fever reducer meds? With the labs? Take care. Patty
Guest guest
Patty: Rob did fine on the Naproxen. He never really complained of stomach distress on it, only with the Voltaren that he is on now. He has never had problems with constipation. Not to butt in, but it is best not to give Milk of Magnesia on a regular basis. It is a stimulant laxative, very harsh, and if given regularly the bowels can become dependent on it and a person won't be able to have a bowel movement without it. Increasing Caitlin's fluids, adding more fiber in her diet, and possibly giving her fibercon or metamucil is a more natural way of fighting constipation than giving a stimulant laxative. A stool softener such as Colace or docusate sodium is also a good alternative. Your doctor can give you good advice in that direction. I can't imagine having a little one swallow these huge pills. Rob started with all this when he was 12, and I must say he is a champion pill swallower. Best of luck with everything...I hope that Caitlin is feeling better very soon. and Rob 14 Spondy On Fri, 19 Dec 2003 19:48:31 EST Emeraldsx3@... writes: > Hi : > > Thank you for your reply. Guest guest
Hi : Butt away, I am learning daily from all of you:) I didn't realize Milk of Magnesia was considered harsh, her pediatrician said it was less harsh than others. I certainly wouldn't want to add anything else on to what Caitlin is dealing with. I will check into it tomorrow with the rheumy for different suggestions. I do like your natural way much better than meds. Thank you for your insight. Take care. Patty
