Dear Diane, I'm so sorry to hear of your illness and I'm really perplexed for I knew that animals could get parvo but I had no idea it could affect people too Or I'm I wrong in assuming that they are one and the same illness??? Get rest when you can , use warm water soaks and range of motion exercise to help with your stiffness and remember moist heat is great but dry heat like a heating pad will only make matters worse. I Hope your symptoms are too long lasting !!! (((HUGGZZZ)))))) :):)Tree:):):) OT: Parvo virus Hey guys,For about the past week, I've been afflicted by what appears to be a virus which has attacked my joints. My doctor thinks it's parvo virus which, in adults, affects the joints. I'm being tested tomorrow to verify if it's that or an auto-immune disease. Anyway, every morning I've woken up thinking that this is what it's like to be our kids or you jra-vets. I can't sleep because of the pain. In the morning, I can barely move. My hands are especially painful and it's incredibly difficult to try the simplest things like brushing my teeth, writing, getting my child in and out of a car seat. I have such renewed sympathy and respect for anyone who has to go through this all the time and who does it well. I'll probably (hopefully) be over this in a few weeks, but having to live like this all the time would be such a challenge. Hugs to all of you guys who do.Diane (, 3, pauci)To leave this mailing list, send request to: -unsubscribe

Diane,

I'm so sorry to hear about your problem. I have also been to the dr

recently with pain in my knees, and my right wrist. I'm still waiting on

the results of all the blood tests. One test came back positive (non

arthritis related) as positive for hyperthyroidism. Sure explains

alot,,but not as far as my knees are concerned. I hope you get some

relief soon. How is ? Logan isn't doing well right now. He has had

strep throat 4 times since Dec,,we go to the ENT on Tuesday,to see about

getting his tonsils removed. He usually only flares when he is positive

for strep (since he has reactive arthritis) but he has been flaring the

past week,,and he is currently (as of Friday) negative for strep. He has

been running a fever off and on for 3 days now,,,I guess we will go back

to the Dr tomorrow.

Well,,,that got long. Hope you are feeling better soon,,and I hope

is doing good.

Hi Diane,

Many prayers that all you are going through is in fact just Parvo virus and you will be better in no time.I worry all the time that I carry the genetic link that gave his JRA only it hasn't manifested itself yet.I would take it away from him in a heartbeat though.Lots of luck!!!

Kim-

Sorry to hear you're having joint problems too. Let me know what the rest of your test results show. I didn't realize Logan's diagnosis was back to reactive arthritis. I thought they'd changed it. He really has had strep alot. I'm happy to say is doing extremely well. She's off her Relafen, but still taking mtx and folic acid. She's had no symptoms for a while now. Her doctor wants to keep her where she is with the medications for a while and eventually start to taper. She's even doing gymnastics. We're very happy to see her so active and pain-free. Hope you and Logan are feeling better soon.

I worry about being the genetic link too and wonder when mine's going to manifest itself. :-) I too would gladly substitute myself if could be fine. Hope all is well with .

Hi Diane,

s as great as ever almost off the pred.I keep asking him if he wants to play T-ball this spring and the answer is always no.He wants to play basketball when he is bigger.I hadn't really realized parvo virus was Fifths Disease.'s sister got a nasty case of it,as far as the rash goes a few months ago,but so far nothing.I do recall our ped saying if got it,it was such a mild disease he should be ok.Recently there were several posts about it saying that if a child with JRA contracts Fifth Disease it can change the blood cells and cause aplastic anemia and other blood disorders that require transfusion. So much for it being such a mild disease.

Glad to hear is still doing great and has even taken up gymnastics, thats really incredable. Is her problem knee still under control?s problem ankle is still great but next month will be the 6 month mark on the Depo-Medrol injection,so we will have to see how well the Enbrel is helping that joint out.

Again I hope the virus and joint pain is over soon,it truley sounds awful.

Becki-

It really sounds like the Enbrel's been a miracle drug for . Maybe he doesn't want to play T-Ball, but it sounds like he could if he wanted to. That's great news. Is he still having pain and swelling in his ankle? 's knee seems fine although it still looks slightly larger. I live in fear of the flare that will put a stop to 's gymnastic. I think as she's getting older, it will be tougher for her to handle the physical limitations of a flare and comments of friends. When she was smaller, she took it all so totally in stride. Re the Fifth's disease, it is supposed to be mild in kids. My sister was horrified at the red face and rash when her daughter got it, but Nikki told her it was no big deal -- all her friends said it's not so bad. I'm not sure why there'are joint issues in adults but not children. I would worry about a child with jra getting it though. If it could cause this much pain in an adult, I'd think it could do it with a child who already has joint issues. Hopefully, I'll not find out -- keeps drinking from my cups despite my repeated efforts to get her to stop. She told me her fingers hurt this morning and I was slightly panicked, but she tends to claim everybody else's symptoms when they're sick. LOLOL. I think she's okay.

Have a nice day.

Hi Diane,

had his ankle injected back in August then started the Enbrel in Sept,no problems since then.He has the prettiest outside ankle bone. His sister was miserable when she had the Fifth Disease, her rash was really heavy and it itched so bad she would draw blood from scratching so much. never caught it which I kind of find strange because it is supposed to be very contagious. So far they seem to get their own set of illnesses and don't give it to each other.I hope you are feeling better soon.

I'm chuckling at your description of 's pretty outside ankle bone. I'm glad his ankle is in such good shape now. Your daughter's rash sounds icky. I was lucky that my rash was only very mildly itchy and went away in a couple of days. I keep saying that it makes no sense that , who takes mtx and should be getting every illness that comes down the pike, always seems to be pretty healthy. I'm the one who gets every virus! I think my kids tire me out and deplete my immune system. :-)

Ciao,

Diane,

Depends on which rheumy we see. One thinks reactive one doesn't. The

blood tests would indicate reactive,,,but the fact that he continues to

flare,a year later,,doesn't sound like reactive to me. From what I

read, reactive usually lasts for about 6 weeks. Who knows,,,its all

confusing to me. LOL

That is great news about !! Gymnastics ! I bet she is so cute.

Logan wants to play soccer,,but last year was so sad to watch,,he just

limped around the field. I'm going to try to discourage soccer,,and talk

him into T-ball instead. He doesn't seem to flare as bad in the

spring/summer.

Have a good day.

Hi Kim,

So sorry, to hear that you've been having some health concerns and are

yourself dealing with joint pain. Reading along with this thread has got me

thinking in different terms. Perhaps it was denial ... but I never really

contemplated that because of the supposed genetic predisposition our

children may have that we, as their parents, might in turn be more or

especially likely to aquire/exhibit related autoimmune conditions. I wonder

how common it is for children who have JRA to have a parent who is or

becomes affected by, for instance, rheumatoid arthritis? Hmmm ....

Logan has certainly had a difficult year. I hope he's doing alright today? I

also hope your appointment with the ENT goes well and that you get some good

information about the possibility of removing Logan's tonsils, to help

prevent these recurring strep infections. Let us know what you find out.

Hope you're feeling better, soon.

Take Care,

Georgina
