Guest guest
Hi Colleen, It was several weeks before ALL the gas was gone (for me). But each day seemed to get a little better. I remember feeling totally "normal" around 3 months. Sounds like a long time, but well worth it. My daughter had NO gas...she was a lucky little thing..lol. Keep walking, keep busy and keep the faith! It will go away and so will the x-tra weight;-) Dana -------------- Original message -------------- From: "colleenpparker" <pawskitty@...> I was banded 7 days ago. Can anyone give me an idea as to how long Ican expect to have the gas problem. I want to feel normal again. Iknow we are all different but, just wondered what is the average timefor working the gas through our systems. I do walk everyday but, notall days are equal. I had a good day yesterday and walked a couple ofmiles. Was exhausted after about a quarter of a mile today. Any helpwould be greatly appreciated.Colleen
Guest guest
S... Ohhhh, it's not your skin where it comes out. ;o) Your GI system absorbs most of it and you burp and ... well, it will come out. That's why GaxX works. 252/161/150 Banded 12/06 (Waiting for the 150s!!!) It is nitrogen that they used to inflate you & they can't get all of it out. It basically has to come out through your skin. This is why walking & mild exercise help get it out. If you have stomach gas pains then Gas-X or something might help but if you are having shoulder pain I don't think it will give you relief. I think heating pads do more good for the pain.Reno
Guest guest
Is he getting enough carbohydrate? Could it be ketosis - acetone breath? Just a thought... Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Gas Male pt who is 18 mos post RnY c/o gas. Frequency and odor has diminished with: chewing with mouth closed; not talking with food in his mouth; yogurt with live cultures qd; Beano with each meal/snack; no carbonation; liquids not at meal time; low fat (salad dressing on side, no fried foods, etc.). No other symptoms of lactose intolerance (cramping, diarrhea) but has tried Lactaid milk also. Also parsley/chlorophyll tabs to decrease odor. Says burps smell, too. Anything else I can suggest to him? Thanks so much, Salem, Or
Guest guest
At this point I think I would be testing for food allergies. LEAP has a good program out. But allergies can cause these symptoms. You really have done a great deal for him as it is. You can try an individualized detoxification diet was the other suggestion I was thinking. Kathy J. Guest guest
I didn't think of it, but check his blood sugar. I am still betting on a food allergy. He is on lactobacillus? Taking it regularly? Sound like dysmotility and putrefaction.. Kathy J. Shattler, M.S.,RD Director, Nutrition and Dietitians Division Http://www.ceu4u.com kshattler@... Guest guest
There are a few other options I would try. Food allergy testing is a good idea too since the bowel terrain is disrupted after RYGB and may increase permeability. Also, there is a product called Devrom that eliminates the odor of gas. Check it out on www.devrom.com it was originally created for colostomy bags to eliminate orders, one of the surgeons I used to work with swears by it and the patients love it. They send out free samples I would also consider some digestive enzymes. Tina Musselman RD, CCN St. Bariatric Program Coordinator (708) 679-2717 phone (708) 679-2418 fax tina.musselman@... Guest guest
I'm starting again, after falling off the wagon. Ramping up on the supplements and easing into the food regime. I have an embarrassing question. I seem to wake up in the morning with a lot of gas. Like a lot. It doesn't feel like undigested food. But more like pure gas that built up in my belly and I'm letting out. Does that make sense? Could it be some kind of bacteria? The candida itself causing this? I use a cpap for sleep apnea and thought it might be from swallowing air, but I was told that would remain in my upper GI. The cpap is a very new type that includes adjustment of carbon dioxide levels, so I thought that had something to do with it. Seems to have started at the same time--the new machine and the gas. But perhaps it's something in my diet. Or that I'm eating too late at night. Any idea what is going on? Thank you. Ann
