Guest guest
Yes, in the green & yellow box? There is a cosmetic grade Borax available but it is fairly expensive and you only use a tiny bit - I don't know anyone who actually buys it. Are you using it in soap/lotion? I've heard of adding it to soap to make a whiter bar, meant to try it yesterday and forgot. Anyone here used it? Jan Flood oakridge@... But, for the tiny amount used in toiletries, the laundry grade is quite adequate. HTH, Beth

The one that uses beeswax, cocoa butter, almond oil, borax and hot water. I would like to know if this cream is intended to be used in the face and/or the body?. My skin is terribly dry (feel like paper) and most creams don´t help me much. I have to keep reapplying it. Also, if somebody can part with an ultrarich formula, my papery skin would surely appreciate it. When I bought borax, the pharmacist asked Borax or Boric Acid? >> Lulu, I don't know which cream you are referring to, but the ingredients sound like good ones for dry skin; although I think it could be made richer with avocado or apricot kernel oil. You can often tell whether it's a facial or a skin cream by how much the recipe makes--a small amount for the face, and a larger amount for the body. You could add some essential oils meant for dry skin, such as rose, neroli, sandalwood, rosewood, and geranium. You could also infuse the water with lavender or rose to make it even richer. Borax is used with beeswax to emulsify the water and oil parts of your mixture. HTH, Beth

Heat your water and borax to the same temp as the oils, then mix the water into the oil very slowly, whisking all the while. It takes patience and maybe some mixing muscles, but it works. To speed things up, however, you can sometimes mix in an ice bath (putting your bowl of mixture into a bowl of ice) or a stick blender. In the US, we can find 20 Mule Team Borax in the laundry aisle. Maybe that will help you find it in the UK. HTH, Beth

Guest guest
Peggy and Obie, I too have recently started using borax and Citric acid as recommended by . I have been using it as a shampoo and it seems fine. I've always hated the commercial chemical shampoos and have previously tended to just never wash my hair instead !!! :-) Well, maybe once every few months with an organic herbal shampoo. But, the Borax shampoo and Citric acid rinse seems fine and I swear my hair is getting shinier and the long-term dry scalp a little better already! I too do not need deodorant ...... or at least I don't think I do!!!! ;-) Actually, I've not used anything like that for many years anyway and its not been a problem. Borax >, I've adopted her recommendation to use borax for laundry, but have no desire to bathe or shampoo with it. Peggy >>(used all natural products for cleaning, laundry, hair and body, ETC) went on an all organic anti-candida type diet, etc. She will be 20 in August and is now doing great. Hasn't had a seizure since she was in grade school :-), thank God. Peggy, just so you'll know, I've used Borax for laundry and bathing since 1994 and no longer need deoderant, it's so effective against bacteria; don't use it as shampoo. Obie. Guest guest
>Hi. I too use borax. can you tell me what is so bad about borax please? >thanks Gladys Opinions on borax are mixed as you have read. It is a known skin irritant and can give some people bad reactions. As with everything, some people could probably dive into a tub of it and not even itch. Many recipes call for it in small amounts, but I honestly have yet to discover anything good that it does in body care recipes. It is on the HealthCanada's hotlist and any product using more than point one percent must be labeled with warnings not to use on broken or abraded skin and not to use on children under 3. Not worth the risk to me, but others will say otherwise. It seems to be a risk vs. benefit thing, and for me the scale tips toward risk. If people are in doubt they can do research, experiment with their recipes, and make an informed decision on benefit vs risk. If you choose to use it, be sure to make it clear on your product labels so those who are sensitive can avoid it. The key for all of us is to know our ingreds and what they do rather than just blindly following recipes. Maybe you can post what you use it in and what it does for your products, I would be really interested to hear your opinion. LJ
Guest guest
Hi, It was used with beeswax to form a really weak soap which acts as an emulsifier - but it is not very effective IMHO. Guest guest
Hi Guys I have been using Borax in a lot of my products and it has been fine for 4 years now. Maybe the borax is different in the South Africa. I am not sure. I don't see why it should be, though. I have received many compliments about my cremes. Hope this helps. Guest guest
I always understood that borax is used in cosmetics to whiten the product as well as acting as a water softener. Di
