Guest guest
I finally wrote my letter of appeal to CCMC. I feel really good about it. For what it's worth. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: <erin.jms@...> Date: Sat, Nov 20, 2010 at 11:29 AM Subject: Please read, a copy has been sent to your Appeals/Complaint Dept. ckim@... Cc: Rick <rickp.2000@...>, KimberFraz@..., bobrobblue@... Attention: Appeals/Complaint Dept. This is an appeal to change CCMC practice of giving daily antibiotics to children with Hydronephronosis. My son, was cared for by Dr. Kim of your Pediatric Urology Dept. with nightly antibiotics for his Hydronephronosis, he now suffers from welts on his face, gastrointestinal problems and a compromised immune system caused by the antibiotics. I am pleading with you to stop the practice of giving antibiotics to Hydronephronosis patients and save the health of children, on a human level please pause and think, if you see a trend of children having welts on their face, gastrointestinal problems and lowered immune response, please know these are signs of overuse of antibiotics. In addition, my experience with Dr. Kim was extremely unpleasant. She was so disrespectful when I shared my concerns over antibiotics, the dye tests, etc. She was fierce when I said " I'd like to wait on anymore dye tests " , she snapped back " well, I don't want him to lose his kidney! " . Well, of course, neither would I. She made me cry every visit, I knew something was wrong with her way of practicing, I had to find another Dr. After months of diarrhea, welts and the effects of his compromised immune system, I got 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions until I found Dr. Weiss of Yale. Once Dr. Weiss said " Yale Urology does not give antibiotics to patients with Hydronephronosis " , I immediately switched hospitals. I got a completely different reception from Dr. Weiss, when I told him my concerns over the dye tests, he said that is was OK to put it off for a while, which we did. It's been three years, my son has shown improvement in his Kidney, thank god, but suffers from welts on his face, gastrointestinal problems and a compromised immune system. Every Dr. I go to to get help for these others problems, and I tell them the story of the overuse of antibiotics and what I know it has done to my son, I get angry, frustrated, sad... but now that he is showing improvement I have a joy and energy to fuel that pain into helping others. Again, I am pleading with you to stop the practice of giving antibiotics to Hydronephronosis patients and save the health of children, on a human level please pause and think, if you see a trend of children having welts on their face, gastrointestinal problems, and immunity problems, please know that it is a sign of the overuse of antibiotics. New research continues to show the far reaching consequence of the overuse of antibiotics. I genuinely hope something can be learned from our suffering, that this practice can be stopped at CCMC and other children with Hydronephronosis won't have to suffer like we are. Thank you for your time. Sincerely,
