However, I've been reading that if you are zinc deficient, then you won't have the enzyme needed to release the stored form of the vitamin from the liver, and zinc prevents possible toxicity. Every time I've been tested for zinc (hair tests etc) I have come up zinc deficient, even though I take it and eat a lot of eggs and offal etc. I know that in stress and adrenal fatigue we use up a lot of zinc. > > http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminA/ > > Anyway, shall I give the pre-formed vitamin A a rest and just carry on taking the cod liver oil? I am taking Vit D too at the moment, as we have no light here and very short dark days in the North of England. +++Hi , The dry scabbing under your nose and your dry flaky chin are not because of vitamin A toxicity. All skin problems and issues are caused by toxins coming out. Ensure you are taking the correct amounts of vitamin A, vitamin D and omega 3 which are: 1. Vitamin A: 20,000 IU - 30,000 IU 2. Vitamin D: 800 IU - 1,200 IU 3. Omega-3: 2,000 mg - 3,000 mg [EPA plus DHA] What brand of cod liver oil are you taking? You wouldn't have low zinc on this program since it is mainly caused by high copper and taking 4,000 mg of vitamin C recommended lowers copper so both zinc and copper would be balanced. But I wouldn't trust hair analysis tests anyway. Zinc is only required in trace amounts and there's plenty in meats and eggs. If you take extra zinc it throws off other mineral balances. Minerals can only be absorbed and utilized when you get the correct combination of good fats, i.e. saturated fats like butter and coconut oil, omega 3, and vitamins A, D & E. Of course all nutrients work together, so that's why all of the supplements plus diet are important. If your cod liver oil doesn't contain enough vitamins A and D you would need extra, but please review your total intake of omega 3, and vitamins A and D. All the best, Bee
