Guest guest
I had a great deal of hairloss too and I'm still losing it but, not nearly as much as I was losing in my early MGB days. I just keep getting it cut shorter in hopes that the new growth will catch up someday. Mm PCP told me there is nothing that can be taken to help prevent the hairloss, but it's sure to grow back. I guess it's just our body's way of acting to the starvation that the MGB has caused. It's truly a small price to pay though. You can buy a wig, but you can't cover up the fat. ; o ) The hair does and will grow back. Guest guest
I am 4-1/2 months post op and have lost VERY LITTLE hair. I have no way of knowing if this is the reason, but I found something on the web called Hair formula 37 (tablets). I ordered it and started taking it a few weeks post op and so far have lost only a few strands of hair. I am thinking it's possible that it's helped. just go to http://www.hairformula37.com/comfiles/pages/category.shtml I have been using the Try Me Combo, I just ordered the Viviscal Combo Special, as I didn't know about the Viviscal. I could tell a difference in my hair texture within a few weeks of taking the Try Me Combo. Just for your info! Jen Indiana MGB 1-18-01 243/176 -67 lbs! in 4-1/2 mos! Guest guest
How much hair? ?Do you have patches of bald spots on your head? Is it visible to others? Aren't there vitamins that directly relate to hair that we can take? joeykris2@... on 06/07/2001 08:49:02 PM Please respond to cc: Subject: hairloss I have lost a great deal of hair also. I am a hairstylist. I researched some products and the winner is Nioxin. They have a website and will recommend what your individual needs are, whether your hair is chemically treated (color, hilites, perm). Guest guest
I have been losing my hair since month one and it has progressively gotten worse. I have very thick hair so it is hard for anyone else to tell but it does bother me. I have been told to try a shampoo by nexus that is recommened for people who are losing there hair. I am not sure of the name of it but I'm sure that you could ask your hair dresser and they can help. If I find out the name I will post it. ston MGB 2/26/01 SW 376/TW 298/GW
Guest guest
My hairloss story is wonderful. I lost so much I had it cut very short. Almost shaved on the bottom. Now it has grown back in curly. I've always had very straight hair, now people tell me they love my new perm. More than I bargained for but happier than ever. Guest guest
No, the hairstylist even thinned my hair out a bit after cutting it last month. She commented I had " a lot more " hair than the model in the pic I took her to go by. Skye
Guest guest
Hi , I'd never heard of it outside of tx either then it started happening to me! I've always had a lot of hair (I mean a LOT), now it's so thin that it embarrasses me. I finally talked to my doc about it & she's sending me to a dermatologist. She says that any long term illness can cause hair loss but just in case it's something else we might as well get it checked out. She also suggested I massage my scalp daily to encourage blood flow & new hair growth. Good luck to both of us, I really hate wigs! Guest guest
Hi -- a lot of factors can cause hair loss... thryroid, high cholesterol, anemia, high or low estrogen. Your hair does not just start falling out for NO reason. Yes, medications can also make our hair thin and fall out-- as does treating HCV-- these medications will make our hair thin and fall out! But being on treatment we know why our hair is thinning and falling out. Not on treatment and our hair suddenly starts to fall out --well-- that is not normal and you should see a doctor and have blood tests done to see why... I'm on treatment and started losing my hair around wk 16 and it's been falling out thinning every since... and I'm definately not happy...but knowing that it is just part of the medication makes it a lot easier to handle the depression about it... If I wasn't on treatement and this was happening I sure would want to know why!! what was my body doing to make this happen.. Good luck and if I can help let me know.. Guest guest
~~ There may be some other underlying condition. For me, some years ago when my hair started falling out until it was very thin and I had low energy (plus weight gain) they found out I had hypothyroidism (low thyroid production). There could be something going on for you unrelated to the Hep C. As far as hair loss went for me on treatment, it was slow at first but picked up speed about 3 months into tx and though my tx ended on June 11th, the hair loss is still in full gear. I recently got some Nioxin hair product that was recommended by the lady who does my hair. It doesn't stop the falling out of hair but it stimulates new growth. I just started using it so I'm not sure how well it works, but I can let you know. I'm glad you are being proactive about your health now and seeing the gastro doc. Keep us posted on how it goes, From: renee <arbee3055@...>Subject: hairlossHepatitis CSupportGroupForDummies Date: Monday, June 30, 2008, 12:53 PM i am not on tx, but i have been having massive hairloss for several months, around the same time i started getting really tired w/ insomnia and blah blah blah, all the stuf that made me finally go back to the gastro.anyway everyone talks about hairloss during tx, but ive never heard anyone talk about it as an actually symptom. my hair is getting so thin i can see scalp and it doesnt show signs of slowing down! and what happens when i go on tx if its already this bad? i know, vanity lol. reneeI'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. www.myspace. com/arbeez
Guest guest
i have told my gastro and he didnt seem concerned about it so i i havent been that concerned, due to cash flow issues i wont be seeing my doc for a couple months but i will certainly bring it up again when i see him. im starting to think that this doc may be the kind you have to nag about things to get stuff done, not that i wont do it! reneeI'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. www.myspace.com/arbeez Hi -- a lot of factors can cause hair loss... thryroid, high cholesterol, anemia, high or low estrogen. Guest guest
The one my doctor orders for this is called a "TSH". Fortunately throughout tx mine didn't flucuate and my regular dose of medication (Synthroid) didn't have to be adjusted. They checked it nearly every time I had blood work done to keep an eye on it. When do you start tx ? Guest guest
i dont know when im starting tx. ive done the bloodwork and ultrasound, but still have to do the biopsy and get t oked by a therapist. i called the research dept of the clinic i go to and gave them my info as well so i might be able to start sooner if i go through that. otherwise itll be a couple of months because of cash flow issues. reneeI'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. www.myspace.com/arbeez The one my doctor orders for this is called a "TSH". Guest guest
yes i have just recently started getting really tired. i never knew how tired a person could be. its a tired in every fiber of my being, i know its not normal, its the hcv manifesting. also, yes i have had the worst memory lately. i forget everything, including important things i need at work. i forget what im talking about in mid sentence and get confused, oh lord am confused easily. and yes it makes me soooo mad. what ive learned from this group, whatever is going on, its not just you.take care reneeI'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. Re: hairloss Wow I've had hairloss too--and on no tx as yet. I have not 'always had alot of hair' but it sureas hell covered my scalp! Everybody talks about my 'bald spot' and I always thought it was a joke but I know I AM losing hair. Please keep me posted on what the dermo says about yours,Suzie, if you don't mind. And I am learning much about this silly little disease (ahem) from this group--for instance, whats up with the being tired and having insomnia thing? Is this really my HCV???I thought it was just the anxiety I was born with coming to a head in my later 40s---and doesit affect your memory as well? I notice I struggle for words now when I speak where as 10 yrs ago I had fine command of the language. I'm getting quite pissed off about this as I am a real talker and asking my son if he wants olive oil or water with his cous cous just because I couldn'tthink of the word "butter" fast enough and said "water" is just OUTRAGOUS!Thanks again, your posts amuse me and keep me laughing!XO-Glenna/Seattle (Also with red hair--from a box tho! Guest guest
yeah i dont know what to do if my hair starts falling out worse because of tx, the thought of a wig is so weird, not to mention, where i work i would be hearing about it and teased (in fun, but still). plus wigs are not cheap!my hair isnt brittle or breaking, it just falls out from the root. the dr did a thyroid screen on me, but since i havent heard back, i am assuming it came back normal. reneeI'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious. Re: Re: hairloss Hey Guys--just wanted to jump in on the hairloss issue...Started to lose my hair on treatment around 3rd month...I'm on pega 180mg/riba 800mg day...I started seeing hair coming out in handfuls in the shower mostly and when I combed it...Boy was that scary....I'm just starting my 29th week of treatment.. Basically, I had to cut 6 inches off---got so brittle and damaged...and couldn't stand all the hair in my hands when I combed it and washed it...I have cut down my washing of hair to 2 times a week--hey--want to keep what I got!I haven't been able to color it for 8 months now !! Looks like crap! Grey coming in and blonde ends...Can't say I'm getting use to having thin hair on top and thin in the back...but you know what--I don't look like I use to 8 months ago either...I look sick! I am sick! So, I'll just be thinned on top till this damn treatment is over---hoping to find some ORGANIC color this weekend to help with the "color" can't stand the grey...and the cut REALLY helped!! Don't think I'm anywhere near wearing a wig ...and maybe that won't happen...if it does--you better believe I'll be going to work dressed up as ZSA ZSA Gabor!!!Love to all, Dorsey
Guest guest
Hello Bee- again Everything is better, except the male pattern baldness. Hand full of hairs everywhere is killing me inside. With pcos i guess testosterone turns into androgens that causes the male pattern hairloss. Is there something I'm missing or should be taking? Thank you
