Helene ****I hope this food is not too expensive.... it's hard to even imagine a cat going for rehydrated anything! Haha Maybe you have a dog too? -- who will eat it up if the cats don't? Please let us know how this food works out with your cats. Fondly, Jude
Guest guest
Judy, I will certainly let you know how it goes. It is no that expensive, especially if one orders 2 or 3 big bags at a time (around 30$ for one big bag that lasts for a little over a month). I'm also trying to contact hunters in my area. So far, my cats have always eaten everything I have given them, that is eggs (raw and cooked), organ meats, milk, yogourt, mussels/clams, fish, meats etc...So I hope they will take to the dehydrated food too! If I were on my own, I would have my cat on a raw diet, but my husband is a bit picky (doesn't want to have raw meat lying around), and is concerned about the amount of money I spend on the kitties. Guest guest
I will throw in a recipe for you that I've used for years. It was meant for dogs but could be adapted for cats I'm sure. Raw recipe: 1 lb of raw ground meat (I used turkey because it was cheapest) 2 eggs with shells 2 tbs. of oil 2 tbs of alfalfa (I used pellets I used as rabbit feed) 2 tbs mollasses (can obviously be omitted, was because of B vitamins) 2 tbs kelp or dulce (I could never find dulce so used a kelp vitamin tablet) 1 cup of cooked veggies 1 cup of plain yogurt 1-2 human multivitamins 1 tbs of seeds/nuts (I never did) 1 cup of oatmeal or rice (optional) was used for dogs needing weight) Put all ingredients in a blender except meat. Blend thoroughly then add to a large container with the raw meat and mix together with a spoon. Keeps in the fridge about a week. Feed 1/2-3/4 cup per 25lbs of weight. There is one rule of thumb when feeding raw. You need 1-1 1/2 tsp. of calcium per 1 lb of meat. I use ground eggshells or raw eggs with shells blended. Guest guest
Hi Heidi, Cats and dogs are strict carnivores so they get sick on plant foods in your recipe, i.e. alfalfa, molasses, kelp/dulce, veggies, seeds/nuts, oatmeal, and rice. See this article about carnivores: http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/carn_herb_comparison.html Bee > > > I will throw in a recipe for you that I've used for years. Guest guest
*** Yes, I am aware of that. I just copied the recipe down as it was given to me and then added the notes how it could be changed or adapted. I used to make it with the meat, eggs, veggies, yogurt, and vitamins. Wolves consume the stomach material of their prey so I believe a little cooked veggie is good for the dogs. I also noted about the calcium/eggshells to meat ratio. I suppose for cats especially that's what you would have left...the meat/eggs/shells.
