Guest guest
, I would suggest you really start eating what and how you are supposed to be eating. I am not at a point where I can exercise much yet, but I have been eating like I'm supposed to be. I'm doing 13.5# since July 1. Sometimes I eat/drink too much and have a tummy aches but I am trying to just stick with what I am supposed to be doing. I will start exercising in the next week or two. Dr. Aveces said he wasn't God and it wouldn't work like magic if you don't do what you're supposed to do. > > > >Â > >> > >> > >>Well i posted yesterday to see if anyone had any of the same problems I'm havn with my band and havent gotten any replys..I guess I'm the only one who's had any problems! Why me?? I have spent money I didnt have on this surgery, not including the money for the fills and gas money to drive 3hrs to get the fills!! And none of it makes any difference.. .I'm only down 8 lbs since February.... I feel like I could have done that on my own w/o putting my house up...now not only am I still fat, but i have another payment every month too!! Please if anybody has any advice about my problem please reply..Im so frustrated at this point I'm telling ppl to NOT go and have this surgery bc it doesnt work for everybody!!! > >> > >> > >> > >> > > > > >
Guest guest
WLS is one of those things that you have to be ready for physically and emotionally and you have to want weight loss like you never wanted anything before. If you head isn't in the game and if your heart isn't begging for a change, it isn't going to happen. i'm not really sure I understand where you got it in your head that this would be easy, there isn't a bloody thing in the world that is easy about weight loss. It's a matter of completely and totally changing everything about your life style and the way you view food. There is no way the band is going to do more than you. It's about 25% the band and 75% you. If you don't put in your 75% the band isn't going to add its 25%. You say you aren't eating well, you say you aren't exercising. I'm not sure what you would have expected? Sure, you could have dieted and exercised your way to goal without the band but let's get real here, you aren't even doing that after having spent thousands of dollars to create a tool. Guest guest
Bipley has never been anything but honest and has provided the vast majority of us with invaluable information. No, she does not sugar coat things but she always tells the truth. This group is here for support but there are times that brutal honesty or tough love may be needed. Don't shoot the messenger. Guest guest
Well, I have to tell you that Bipley doesn't candy coat things. Sometimes people really need a reality check--she wasn't rude she was direct and to the point. She isn't being rude, she is being honest. When you ask a loaded question you might not like the answers. I have the utmost respect for Bipley and appreciate her honesty and knowledge. Bipley has vast medical knowledge and personal knowledge that is invaluable. She was a real help when I was trying to make up my mind about this surgery. I have great respect for her. I agree that if you don't want to read Bipley responses then you do have the option to NOT read them. Everyone communicates in a different style--deal with it. Have you thought about how you sounded when you said what you said to Bipley--it sounded pretty rude to me, but I overlook those things and just say that is what you felt you needed to say. What one person might find offensive other people might find it to be just the kind of answer that should have been given. I think Bipley was dead on when she said you have to have your head in the right place and you have to want this more than you want anything else in your life. This is a total life style change and until you get that right in your head it isn't going to work for you. If you are doing the right things like eating right and exercising then you will not have the results that you want. It DOES take effort on your part to make this all happen. Guest guest
Sorry Rena but it had to be said. If was not eating properly and is not exercising, she really needs to think why she got the band in the first place. The band is a tool, not a miracle worker and it takes effort to lose weight. We all know it is not easy but she needs to out more effort into it to have a shot at having the band work for her, Sugar coating the situation will not solve the situation. caused this; she admitted she is sabotaging herself. She needs support but she also needs to be real with the situation. If she does not want to change her lifestyle, then having the band or even revising it to a sleeve is useless. If she is now wanting to out the effort into it, she needs all the support we can provide her and she needs to motivate herself and put the work into it. I know that before I commited to having surgery, I told myself that I had to commit to change my lifestyle. I have and now I look forward to having my surgery done next week if my financing comes through. Guest guest
I totally agree with what Rena just said. Bipley you get on the site and your words aren’t of encouragement, you actually offend people most of the time. You make comments about everything, you think you know everything when you DON’T, and you think your right all the time. According to you, you had the band and it didn’t work for you. So now you have the sleeve and it’s working for you, that’s great. But what’s good for one doesn’t make it good for everyone. And what doesn’t work for some, doesn’t mean is not going to work for everyone. I’m so glad someone finally called you out, you needed to be put in your place. Guest guest
I actually sort of agree with Bipley's logic here. , this isn't meant to be a personal slap at you so much, as Bipley is just saying that you really have to want this to work for you and take responsibility for yourself. I know it's a major shift in thought and action. But Bipley is right, you have to be ready for this shift and it doesn't sound like you are. So you need to work on the head stuff and then the body will follow the head. You know that, right? See you were getting everyone concerned about the reasons WHY you weren't losing, and then after everyone's helpful responses you came clean and said it was basically your own fault. Well guess what? Yes, that is the starting point where you can change this around for yourself. Bipley was saying in her own unique way that you need to get into your program so you can help yourself. Spending the money and getting the tool is the EASY part; the rest has to come from you. Wish you the best. Rena, no need to take off Bipley's head here; everyone has their opinion and perspective. Thanks > > > > > > > > > >Â > > > > >> > > > > >> > > > > >>Well i posted yesterday to see if anyone had any of the same problems > > > I'm havn with my band and havent gotten any replys..I guess I'm the only one > > > who's had any problems! Guest guest
Wow, what a mouthful!! I thought this was a support group and thought when I responded to it I would be getting support, not negative comments. As for the band, I've seen it work great for my sister in law and mother in law and thats why I traveled to Mexico and took out a loan on my house to get it. It may work great for some people but I am having a difficult time with it. Anyway, I'm guessing the same goes for the support group, it works great as long as your not being honest! Guest guest
And it'll work for you too once you decide the best way to work it. Like all tools, you just have to figure out the best way to use it for your intended purposes. Don't get all defensive, that won't help. And don't over-dramatize someone's comments if they don't support your position. You KNOW this is a support group and you've been supported. Questions and answers and opinions have been provided to you because people care. BUT this is a public forum and when you post something, you will certainly get responses; some sugar-coated, some not so sugar-coated, and some brutally honest. They're all honest responses, just presented a little differently. Best of luck to you. I'm sure you'll do fine. And if the band becomes problematic, there are other options should you require them. > >> > > >> > > >> >> > >> >> > >> >>Well i posted yesterday to see if anyone had any of the same problems I'm > >>havn with my band and havent gotten any replys..I guess I'm the only one who's > >>had any problems! Guest guest
, She isn't saying anything that all of us are not thinking. She is right; the lap band is a tool, not a cure all and for it to work, you need change your lifestyle. The main problem i see you having is you are not following through with the eating; you need to eat healthy and of course keep up with the fills. We are here to support anyone who needs it but when you are sabotaging yourself, it's hard to be supportive. I recommend talking to a counsellor about why you are not giving yourself a chance to succeed. Another part of me thinks you should convert to a sleeve if you really want low maintenance. The surgery is not as expensive as it is in Canada or US, but when you make a decision to have wls, it's a commitment to a new healthy lifestyle. Alone, the tool, will not work, but with proper nutrition and exercise, you will see a dramatic change in the way your bady responds. Good luck. > >> > > >> > > >> >> > >> >> > >> >>Well i posted yesterday to see if anyone had any of the same problems I'm > >>havn with my band and havent gotten any replys..I guess I'm the only one who's > >>had any problems! Guest guest
I agree with Suzanne. Bipley is very knowledgable and dedicated to helping people through this process. She has reached her goal and continues to offer her knowledge and experience to those who are just starting their journey. IMO, that deserves a huge "kudos" - she could say screw you all - I'm living my new life - figure it out on your own. I don't think she had any ill-intentions...she was just brutally honest. I know from my research that this is a tool and that I can't expect the sleeve to do it all by itself - that is the first thing I learned within 5 minutes of reading the boards/forums (as much as I wanted to hear it was a magic fix!). I don't know how anyone could have missed that huge detail!! I personally appreciate the tough love - sure it hurts and I may pout, cuss and possibly cry lol, but in the end it is much more effective for me to get out of my "rut" and turn it around for the positive. It does me no good if people join me in my own pitty party. There are so many people who would love to be in our positions - with the means to have this tool and we shouldn't let it go to waste. This is a total life style change and until you get that right in your head it isn't going to work for you. If you are doing the right things like eating right and exercising then you will not have the results that you want. It DOES take effort on your part to make this all happen. Guest guest
All I'm saying is show some RESPECT. If you want respect give respect...And for a newbie you just don't kick them when they are down...I know Bipley has been on here since the beginning of time that's why she is being so blunt, she's lost her compassion for newbies. I say if you have no compassion to help a newbie understand then don't respond to them like she did...KEEP YOUR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS TO YOURSELF...and let someone with compassion show a newbie the way... Guest guest
Thank you ! You know what it feels like on here...I know Bipley is a nurse...But, you know how we look up to doctors and we are afraid to question them, so we sit there and let them walk all over us...That is what Bipley is doing...Treating us like we're dumb ignorant ppl...We know why we got fat, we know why we are not losing...'s problem started out because she has a 4 cc band and it was already filled to 3.8 cc within 2 months of being banded with not much restriction and she was worried that her band wasn't working...I would be too...In all my 6 years of research I have NEVER heard of anyone getting that much in their band that soon after surgery and NINA said she hasn't either...That is Nina with DR. A. So now is really worried...The band is a tool, that we agree on...But it's also like a tire...You put air/saline in it and it should tighten up... isn't...Why? So that is where it all stemmed from... I'm sorry for causing a rukus but not sorry for standing up and showing some compassion and feeling 's pain... Thanks for your supprt, Have a great day! From: <vanessa@...>Subject: RE: HELP!!!" " < >Date: Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 2:52 PM I totally agree with what Rena just said. SO THANK YOU RENA – AND YES IF YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING NICE TO SAY THEN SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!!!! Bipley,DIDN'T YOUR MOMMA EVER TELL YOU, "IF YOU DON'T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY THEN KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT?" IF NOT SHE DIDN'T DO HER JOB!!!! WHEN SOMEONE ASKS FOR HELP, YOU DON'T KICK THEM WHILE THEY ARE DOWN, AS YOU DID MICHELLE. YOU OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE PRO AT THIS DOESN'T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO BE CONDESENDING TO NEWBIES.Your like an antique piece of furniture that has been on this web support group since the beginning of it's creation...Your completely out of sympathy and encouragment. ..If didn't want to lose she wouldn't of spent her money getting the band. Maybe her mind needs to get use to the idea but hey that too will come about. You don't have to be a smartass about it.So do us all a favor and if you can't talk nice then shut up.Sincerely, Rena> > > >> > > >Â> > > >>> > > >>> > > >>Well i posted yesterday to see if anyone had any of the same problems> > I'm havn with my band and havent gotten any replys..I guess I'm the only one> > who's had any problems! Guest guest
you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about.I have not been here since the beginning of time, i've been here 3.5 years.I have devoted a lot of time and effort into helping newbies, I have spent weeks writing a blog helping newbies: WASaBubbleButt.blogspot.comI devote all my free time to helping newbies. What do YOU do? Some people are head patters and some are not. Sometimes people need a bit of reality and sometimes they need hand holding. Instead of making assumptions about people you know nothing about, don't read my posts. It's as simple as that. I could go on and on about maturity levels and manners from reading YOUR posts, but I haven't. That is the difference between you and me. You post your way, I'll post mine. You don't like it? The solution is quite simple, don't read. As for 3.8cc in a 4cc band.... this is not at all unusual. It's COMMON. Many factors involved here and I responded to this issue when it was first posted. Just because you haven't heard of it does not mean there is something wrong. On Thu, Jul 22, 2010 at 6:24 AM, rena brown <rena71857@...> wrote: All I'm saying is show some RESPECT.
