Guest guest
If you like turkey (and I do), there are bargains to be had in this season. You can buy turkeys for less just before Thanksgiving, but frequently stores will mark down the leftover ones--sometimes after Thanksgiving, but also closer to the New Year. Sometimes just before New Year's, sometimes right after. But you can get some really good bargains. Sam's Club and Costco usually have " regular price " turkeys in the range of less than $1.00 per pound (has been as low as 78 cents, I think, but has gone up). Sometimes leftovers are marked down, sometimes not. I get the smaller ones... but, for instance, a local Albertson's market marks down leftovers to a flat price of $8.00 per turkey. If you get a really big one, the price per pound will plummet. I normally get the ones which are 15 pounds or less, because that iw what will fit on my rotisserie. There are several brands of locally grown turkeys here in Southern California: Zacky Farms, Farms, Huntsinger (normally very pricy, and raised maybe 50 miles from where I live), and some others. I prefer these to Butterball brand, and that's what I'll get, depending on my budget and the timing of the markdowns. Well, happy eating to everyone!
