In other words, if you have low stomach acid does food ferment in the stomach and cause bad breath? +++Hi Amy, If you don't digest your foods properly they end up in the large intestines undigested. This forces your large intestine to create bacteria in order to break them down, i.e. ferment them. which produces lots of gas, and other by-products that have to be eliminated through organs like the lungs, kidneys, liver and skin. Also this healthy program helps your body detoxify better, which means toxins have to get out somehow, which again is through the liver, lungs, skin, kidneys, and even the mouth itself since it has a type of skin lining it. In addition, your mouth ferments foods (sugars and carbs) and that's what causes cavities and gum disease. When you get " proper nutrients " the environment in your mouth changes like Dr. Price writes, so the fermenting bacteria will be low to none. Guest guest
This might be a silly question, but are digestive enzymes the same as HCL supplements? HCl is what the stomach produces which mainly starts digesting proteins. Digestive enzymes are produced in the mouth which starts breaking down carbs/plant foods, and when stomach acid gets high enough they are neutralized. Protein and carbs continue digestion in the first part of the small intestines, called the duodenum, along with digestion of fats, by digestive enzymes produced by the pancreas. Read " How to Improve Digestion " to understand more about this process and why taking digestive enzymes is a waste, and why you only take HCl: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/dig3.php Cheers, Bee
Guest guest
Bee, In all your years of nutrition research, what are some ways people can get their Gastric acid levels back to par? also, do you think supplementing with Betaine HCl is a safe way by means that the body has shutdown acid secretion for a reason (and that giving acid could do more damage)? What are your thoughts on this. LukeC

But it takes a combination of low-carbs, all carbs having their cell walls (fibers) broken down by cooking or fermenting, high good fats, meats, eggs, and supplements. That's because all nutrients all work together providing the body with what it needs so it can detoxify and heal itself as Nature intended. The body shuts down acid secretion when it is running on its fight/flight nervous system which is what is happening with most unhealthy people. Also carbs interfere with stomach acid production. Everyone on my program who has taken HCl hasn't had any damage done. Eventually they are able to stop taking it as they progress on this program. Guest guest
Bee: if I do not have symptoms of acid relux, etc. do I still need to take HCI supplements?
