To donate to medical research or not?

Hi everyone,

There is something that has been playing on my mind for a while, and that is

donating to medical research.

I want to know if my money is going to actual 'research'...are people ever going

to 'discover' how the body heals itself naturally? Or is most medical 'research'

just pointless? (in the scheme of HEALING and not covering symptoms/trying to

find random cures).

My friends are starting a funraiser for bowel cancer and are asking for

donations. I'm scant on money but of course they expect something...but I have a

feeling my money wont actually go towards curing anyone.

How do I explain myself to my friends without them thinking I'm just some

horrible person that won't donate to a 'good cause'?

I don't want to give out my money because I feel it is just a waste feeding big

money-making coorperations. Am I even right in saying this?
