Guest guest
If you're overweight, you may be insulin resistant and may need more time for the diet to work. Seems like you're eating a lot of carbs compared to your protein and fat intake. Try cutting out the carbs (try staying under 100 grams a day) and eating more protein and fat and quit worrying about the calories. Eat your fill and count carbs. Drink some green tea instead of coffee. Remember that the diet is not for weight loss but for regaining and maintaining good health. Just because you're eating foods that are neutral or beneficial doesn't mean that they're not high in carbs. You have to " train " your body to go after stored fat instead of waiting around for you to yo yo and eat carbs. The body does not like to be " trained " so the cravings will not be easy. Guest guest
It sounds really funny for me, I've been on the diet for the fourth year now and gained wait (no mere than on eor two pounds) only when I broke the rules and weight went back immediately after returning to no avoids. (Never ate any wheat or corn or potatoes, they are absolutely avoids for me.) Your choice of food seems right. Which is the latest time you eat at night? Do you drink enoough water/green tea ? You could further finetune your diet by finding out your secretor status, nonsecretors need even less grains and more protein with vegetables. These are just a few ideas, I hope others will share theirs, too. Rose/Hun
Guest guest
Re: weight gain/loss > Your choice of food seems right. Which is the latest time you eat at > night? I'm a " late bird " , and I'm frequently up until midnight or 1:00. And tonight I have class from 6-10, so my " evening snack " will be pretty late. But normally, I don't eat (except veggies) after around 9:00. > Do you drink enoough water/green tea ? That I don't worry about - I have a 4-cup bottle. At night I make green tea (4 cups total, 2 bags regular, 2 bags decaf). Then, at work, I refill the bottle one time with bottled water I bring from home and I have 1 cup of " detox " herbal tea and another cup of herbal or rose hip tea. At home in the afternoon I fill the big bottle again and finish it sometime early evening. Then I just drink cups of water/detox tea/herbal until 10:00 or so. > You could further finetune your diet by finding out your secretor > status, nonsecretors need even less grains and more protein with > vegetables. I'm thinking (more or less) liberal Atkins with er4yt restrictions. thanks, Ellen
Guest guest
>if this is a diet where you have to give up your life (and family gatherings)I'll go back to Atkins.< Going back to Atkins... now that would be smart. Here are some questions for you. 1 - How much do you weigh? 2 - What did you eat on Atkins? 3 - Did you loose fat on Atkins? 4 - The weight that was gained recently - is it muscle or is it fat? Tomasito. ABO Specifics Inc. - http://www.foodforyourblood.com weight gain/loss might anybody have a clue why I'm *gaining* weight on this diet? It doesn't seem to matter over a week of time whether I'm perfect, or not so perfect, or downright naughty. It's very frustrating. Over a week of time I average about 1800 calories a day and the beginning of last week I started back at Curves 3 times a week. A lesser exercise is getting on my exercise bike in the basement every time I go down to do a load of laundry. I was good (even only a little stuffing on Thanksgiving, then stuck to sweet potatoes and even a crustless pumpkin pie). I've cut way back on coffee (a cup a day), switched to a fluoride-free water and even toothpaste. I'm eating raw pumpkin seeds and black walnuts for snacks (instead of milk duds). My lunch is a salad (today only broccoli, cherry tomatoes and carrots, no dressing) and some sort of meat (or chicken). Today my " main dish " is tuna salad (tuna, Omega-3 mayonnaise, curry powder, sea salt, red onions, celery and carrots). Snacks are the daily pumpkin seed and walnuts, and an apple for after school. I don't think I'll have dinner tonight (class from 6-10 with a test, so I'm going right to school - I'll make the same " salad " , only my son ate the rest of my tomatoes, and some round roast that I sliced and put in the freezer. Oh, my breakfast is a smoothie: banana, rice milk (O friendly), flax meal, egg white powder and a teaspoon of sesame oil. Some days I use half banana and half some kind of " O " berries, and some days I use mangoes/ " O " fruit. So, it was rather frustrating to gain 3 pounds...if this is a diet where you have to give up your life (and family gatherings) I'll go back to Atkins. ;-/ Ellen

Guest guest
I too have not gained any weight and in fact when I first became ill I lost weight which I have still been unable to put back on. My weight does fluctuate a bit and when I tried increasing my dose of Thyroxine I started to lose even more weight, however the increase in the dose was giving me palpatations, sweats and insomnia so the doctor reduced it back down and now the old feelings of exhaustion etc have returned. Anyones thoughts on this weight issue would be very welcome. Im asking because my weight has always been dead on 8 stone and people often comment that Im very thin/slim. This last month I have gained about 5 lbs which is very unusual for me but as my symptoms have been quite bad its possibly because Im not moving around as much as normal. I have read on here so many of you suffering with weight gain that I wondered if maybe I have something else going on rather than underactive thyroid although my blood results would suggetst not(TSH started at 9 beginning of year is now down to 6.88, T6 10.3).. Guest guest
Hi suzanne, First you say you have not gained weight, then you say you have? I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Not all patients show all symptoms all at once, but slowing down mentally and physically seem to be the two most common symptoms. > thyroid treatment > From: susanne04107@...> Date: Mon, 14 Sep 2009 11:47:28 +0000> Subject: Weight gain/loss> > Is it unusual not to gain weight if you have underactive thyroid? Guest guest
Hi sorry my message must have been quite confusing the way I wrote it. What I mean is I have always been slim and never overweight. I have had symptoms of underactive thyroid for about 12 months maybe more but only got a diagnosis about 5 months ago. It is only probably in the last 2 months that I have gained any weight and only about 4 to 5 lbs although I did lose it again. My question is do you always gain weight with underactive thyroid? Do some people not have a problem with weight gain with an underactive thyroid. Could it be that I will eventually gain weight if Im not treated properly? Sorry for the confusion. > > > Hi suzanne, > First you say you have not gained weight, then you say you have? Guest guest
Hi Suzanne If you look at this site (TPA-UK) you'll see that weight loss is a symptom, too: http://www.tpa-uk.org.uk/symptoms_hypot.pdf Chris
Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, Some folk are more affected with some symptoms than others, but now you are gaining it seems that this symptom has finally caught up with you. There was a paper written recently that came to the conclusion that T4 caused weight gain- I came to the opposite conclusion- the absence of T3 caused weight gain. Theoretically once you are on the right meds weight will once again be controllable- it's getting the right meds that is the problem if T4 is not enough. > thyroid treatment > From: susanne04107@...> Date: Tue, 15 Sep 2009 14:08:50 +0000> Subject: Re: Weight gain/loss> > > Hi sorry my message must have been quite confusing the way I wrote it. Guest guest
Hi all, I know there's been a lot of talk lately about unwanted weight gain but I am wondering if anyone has insight as to why some people gain on this programme and others lose, at least for a while. I was previously on Body Ecology and lost quite a lot of weight on it the first time - cellulite disappeared quickly and I had so much energy. The second time, before doing Bee's programme, it didn't work the same way, though I still lost weight. Just wondering if there are any patterns among those who lose with Bee's programme and those who gain. Thanks Priya
