Guest guest
> > Hi Bee, > > I have so many organic eggshells that I've saved for months. If I pulverize them into a powder are they ready for consumption or is it necessary to have them in lemon first to make them bioavailable? Can a large batch be done at one time and saved to use throughout the month? +++Hi . All minerals require acid in order to be absorbed, so that's why powdered eggshells are mixed with lemon juice first. The lemon juice makes it moist and easier to swallow, and it tastes better. Have you smelled or tasted powdered eggshells? I don't find it pleasant at all. +++You can make larger batches with lemon juice but it dries out over time. Keep it in a glass container, with a lid that seals it well. +++The problem with batches is measuring out accurate doses. If you can solve that, then go for it. If it dries out you can add more lemon juice, but that would change the amount to take. +++Powdered minerals cannot be mixed into liquids to take them since they are heavy and sink to the bottom so you'd be digging them out with a spoon. +++Instead of mixing it with lemon juice, you can take vitamin C with the eggshell powder. All supplements must be taken with meals anyway. > > I also have a ton of lemons. I'm wondering if I dehydrate them and pulverize them into a powder if it would be a powerful vit. C supplement. I also have rose hips I could pulverize with it. +++Lemons and rose hips are too high in sugars to use them that way. Guest guest
Hi Bee I just saw your reply to about powdered eggshells. So if we add the powder to our vit C and water we don't need to let it sit like we do the lemon juice solution? Thanks, Priya On Sun, Aug 15, 2010 at 9:27 PM, Bee <beeisbuzzing2003@...> wrote: > +++Instead of mixing it with lemon juice, you can take vitamin C with the > eggshell powder. Guest guest
Hi, Bee, When I used the coffee grinder for making eggshell powder, it is not smooth enough and the membrane turned into pieces but not powder. When I soak the powdered eggshell into lemon juice, it did not make it dissolve. How do I improve? Should I use a better grinder? I did use the whole egg blended by Vita-Mix and mixed with other stuff for making a banana cake, it seems OK, just a little bits of pieces detected. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Mei - I think you are supposed to remove the membrane and just use the actual shell. Not sure why it wouldn't dissolve - Hopefully Bee can answer that one. Ali, one does not remove the membrane when making homemade calcium from eggshells. See link below under the suggested heading. Mei, rather than having to get another grinder try putting them in a plastic bag and use a rolling pin to grind them into a fine powder. More on this below. Then you must dry them out well before grinding them. I spread them out on a cookie sheet. Then I crunch them with my hands to break them into smaller pieces. I use a coffee grinder too and it powders the eggshells really well. The lemon juice does not dissolve powdered eggshell totally, but it makes the mixture taste better and it provides the acid minerals need in order to be absorbed by our bodies. Under the subheadings, below, it states to not remove the membrane due to its nutrients. See below the references and the link. How to Make Powdered Eggshells: 1. Wash empty eggshells in warm water until all of the egg white is removed, but " do not remove the membrane " because it contains important nutrients for the joints which helps arthritis. http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/supp2.php # 2 Lemon Eggshell: # Carefully remove the eggs " without breaking the membrane " , and use them as you would normally, i.e. in your raw egg drink. Bee, I find no other reference/s where it states otherwise on that page . If the above is not correct, then it may be suggested to address it. I was wrong this morning when I wrote that the membrane should be removed. It's good to know none of us are perfect, and we all make mistakes eh? Ed, you are doing a fantastic job helping people, and it helps me a lot too. Thank you immensely! Lots of bouquets and good vibes to you always! Guest guest
Hi Mei, I was wrong by advising you to remove the membrane inside the shell - thank goodness my wonderful moderator Ed was on the ball! Your coffee grinder should still powder it okay. I had to stop it grinding once in awhile to scrape the sides and get all of the pieces into the grinder in the middle, and I pulsed the grinder quite often too. Guest guest
Wouldn't putting the shells in plastic and rolling them contaminate them with plastic, especially since they are sharp and jagged and would scrape the plastic? > > > > @@ Hi Mei and Ali, > > > > I had to correct this post since I forgot to submit the link below. > > > > Ali, one does not remove the membrane when making homemade calcium from eggshells. It is highly unlikely dried eggshells could have any plastic leached into them even if they scrape the plastic, since they are dried, not acidic, not moist, etc. We can't get too picky about some things; that why we have " pick our battles.
