I think constipation is listed as a side effect by the Mayo Clinic,

Kirsty. It's said to kick in at adequate intake level so you may have

got to the point where he doesn't need any more. A blog I read suggested

using constipation as a guide as to whether more was needed ie get

constipated, stop taking it you've got enough. Whether that is true of

children prone to constipation anyway is another matter.

Hi

Agree re the constipation - took the Metabolics D for 9 months without any

constipation problems, although 2 caps a day was about 900 IU's - so that

significantly less than the D3..maybe that ties in with Sally's comments on not

needing so much d...

Hi Bee,

I was reading and watching videos from ph Mercola on natural healing

etc. Apparently he has put alot of concern, and research into the

profound benefits of Vit d3. (UBV being the good one of course)

He states that having high cholesteral is important for the making of d3

through UVB rays from the sun, or a safe tanning bed which use the same

ratios as the sun. (20 to 1 UVA to UVB)Some beds now he said have a 10

to 1 ratio which is better, but the beds MUST be electric not magnetic.

He also says the best option for d3 is the sun, the second best is safe

tanning bed, and third is orally, but states our bodies were not

designed to get d3 orally. He says years ago our ancestors had virtually

no issues with d3 levels due to being outside, but in modern times with

office work etc the d3 levels have dropped dramatically.

Also he says that a healthy person should consume 3000unit per 100lbs,

along with proper diet, and other supps like omega 3, vit C etc, plus

diet.

If the person has auto immune defiencies or cancer, diabetes they should

be on a minimum of 5000units per 100lbs, maybe even higher depending on

their situation, while monitoring their d3 levels.

He swears by its powerful abilities against cancer, but states that

modern technology and doctors disagree, or maybe they just wont submit

to the obvious.

In his view it could replace cemotherapy. Wow i was shocked when i heard

that on one of his videos.

In his view on cod liver oil he stated the vit a in cod liver oil

affects the of the vit d3. Therefore he has removed taking cod liver

oil from his previous regime for optimum health.

Finally, he never gave exact times for being in the sun, and how much d3

units you get from the sun. If you could shed some LIGHT (LOL) on that

it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you again.... Caine....

+++Hi Caine,

Dr. Mercola is totally wrong about vitamin A in cod liver oil - see this

rebuttal by the Weston A. Price Foundation to Dr. Mercola's and Dr. Cannell's

stand about vitamin A:

+++Here's my article " Vitamin D - Amount of Sun Exposure Required " :

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/sun.php

I think it is almost impossible for most people to meet all of the requirements

for making vitamin D on the skin because of showering, bathing and chlorine in

our water, etc.

+++I don't agree with relying on blood tests to determine how much vitamin D to

take since such tests don't test what is going on at a cellular level.

+++Also labs cannot test all of the other nutrients that are important for

utilizing and absorbing vitamin D, which includes vitamin A, omega 3, omega 6,

and saturated fats like butter, coconut oil, lard, etc. Of course there are

many other nutrients that work along with all of the fats, including protein,

minerals, etc.

+++Taking high doses of vitamin D throws off the balance of many other nutrients

as well, including calcium, vitamin A. I've seen many people who messed

themselves up badly by following vitamin D tests and their doctor's advice,

including Dr. Mercola.

+++Your body is smart enough to balance out all of its nutrient levels IF you

just give it the basics (diet plus supplements).

+++This program works for everyone as it is, since it provides all of the

" proper nutrients " that every human body requires in order to be healthy, with

just the basic supplements recommended. If it didn't work we wouldn't have so

many Success Stories that are trully miraculous.

All the best, Bee

It probably depends on how much of the vitamin D you are willing to have

absorbed versus waste. I doubt it is a linear relationship. Possibly 90% is

absorbed in the first 20 minutes and 99% after 48 hours. I'll see if I can

find some info on this.

+++Hi Zack,

However, I've seen data that the body needs 24 hours, and another

reference says 48 hours. Do you have a reference?

Bee

@@ Hi Bee & Zack,

Unless your time is irrelevant , its probably better to error on the side of

caution & leave the recommendation of no showering for 48hrs after sun exposure.

Waiting longer to shower, isn't detrimental :-)

To change to otherwise, would mean you would have to find & disclose numerous

reputable sources to validate a less time frame. Why trouble yourself ?

A friendly suggestion/consideration .

Hi Caine,

Yes, it is okay to go into the sun and use the right kind of tanning bed to make

vitamin D on your skin, since you are allowing oils to build up on your skin.
