One Year anniversary

Today is my one yr anniversary. I have lost 120 lbs and can wear sizes

12-14. I had my lab work done last week and everything was great except my

iron is quite low. I have been taking 3 iron pills daily for about 3 months

and it has not come up much. My ferritin is 4.01 and hemoglobin is 9.8 and

hematocrit is 31. Pre op my liver enzymes were elevated and now they are

completely normal. I am " cured " of diabetes. I do not have any high sugars

but have drastic low sugars ( down to 35 ) if I eat something very sweet.

I am thrilled with my wt loss and hope I will loose another 20-25 lbs.

I hope to post a pre and post op picture soon.

What is ferritin? When I had my blood work done....my ferritin was EXTREMELY

high...I know it has to do with something about my liver...but I don't have a

clue...my PCP is worthless!!!

Glenda, That is so great!!! What great weight loss numbers!! My iron is

low as well and I take iron tabs and have iron in my vitamins. My cycles

are not heavy or even regular so I am not losing it there. Good luck on

getting that iron up..

Congrats : I don't believe I had read your story before. Very

interesting. I have trouble finding any pictures of me pre-op. The few I

have I did not like having them made. I pulled out our church pictorial

directory the other day and closed it right back up. The picture of the

family was good but I looked awful. It was taken 13 days pre-op. You know

the funny thing about the picnic. I think when we all saw someone we had

seen before or pictures of them on the internet we were all so happy for them

, beautiful story. Your mothers picture is in the best place, your

heart and your mind!

One year anniversary

We have all heard these stories before but I can't help sharing my

(briefly I promise).

One year ago today I was sitting in the lobby of Durham Regional

Hospital. I was a little nervous and apprehensive but more than that I

was hopeful. After all --- I was regaining control of my life on that

day!

I started off with my weight loss post-surgery very slowly - only 10

pounds the first month. Dr. R was a little worried as was I of course.

I am now down 105 pounds! I wore a size 26 jeans the day of clinic (the

day before surgery) and am now in a size 12 (which is unbelievable to

me). I actually did some shopping last night and bought a size M pair

of overalls (on the sale rack of course) and a M sweater. I still am in

shock when I try on anything in a " normal " size and it fits. I guess

that feeling will pass eventually.

Overall I am healthy. I still have some reflux which is nothing new - I

had it prior to surgery too. I am currently on a Prevpak prescribed by

Dr. R which hopefully will take it away completely (it only happens once

or at most twice a month). I have more energy, etc. of course.

Bankie made a special point of telling me that in my picture on the web

I am not smiling and obviously " not happy " . Part of that I attribute to

the fact that this was a picture I had to take --- most of us avoided

cameras back then! I now smile in pictures. I don't run from the

camera. One of my greatest sadnesses is that there aren't a lot of

recent pictures of my mother who passed away almost two years ago. She

like most of us I think shyed away from the camera whenever possible. I

now run and play with my kids --- I look forward to taking pictures with

them being silly, etc.

Life is wonderful and I wanted to share my happiness today with all my

MGB friends.

Thanks for always being there for me at the other end of my keyboard.

Bankie,

Now I'm sorry. I know that you were not saying that I was unhappy --- I

phrased my comment terribly. You were right of course - the picture of

me is horrid with no smile, no emotion, etc. Now I seem to have a smile

on my face at least most of the time! You are a dear and I know that

you didn't mean anything bad by your comment. I am sooo sorry if now I

have hurt your feelings!

Certainly, when I saw your pictures on the web, I knew little about you
