Guest guest
Ozonated Olive Oil ! Ask Saul Pressman about it. Kat :-) Wound healing My six year old son just fell and got a cut on his forehead. It would probably take one stitch to close it if I took him into the hospital, but I think he will heal ok without a stitch at all. It is a fairly small, but a little deep. We're a little hospital-shy with all that we have read about these germ-filled places. Someone once wrote in about some nutrient, product or whatever to help heal wounds quickly and without much scarring.....can anyone offer me some suggestions? Thanks so much, Patty
Guest guest
Dear Patty, If the wound is gaping it will scar. It is better to close the wound as it will heal quicker & leave a smaller scar. Guest guest
i read somewhere is a folk remedy book that one of the best things for scars was abalone shell paste left out at night mixed with lemon juice. the book made some amazing claims that long term scars had totally vanished. Guest guest
Patty, The deal is to hold the skin in place while it heals itself. There are several ways to do this. My mom used to tape cuts closed with bandage tape. Clean the wound & put the tape on one side, then pull to the other side so the tape is holding the cut closed. Then, just leave it alone long enough for one side to knit to the other. It's as good as a stitch. You don't have to worry about perfect. The body knows how to heal itself. I'd even use crazy glue in a pinch. The army doctors in Vietnam fell in love with crazy glue for suturing. Most glues work. When I was a teen we used to use ultra-fast drying airplane glue to seal the many cuts on our fingers made with razor knifes. It even stopped the bleeding. Also, apply Vitamin E liberally internally & externally to prevent a scar. Some drug stores still carry " Sew Skin " which is a great waterproof covering for healing cuts. It's older than most of us are. Using it, cuts usually are done in half the normal time. It is antiseptic, it breathes, is waterproof & flexible. jim Patty wrote: > > My six year old son just fell and got a cut on his forehead. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for help on my son's forehead wound. I ended up putting a dab of triple antibiotic ointment on it and then bandaging it, trying to keep the sides together as much as possible. It bled for a little, but this morning it looks pretty good--not nearly as bad or as deep as it first did. I try not to freak out when my little ones get hurt, but I hate that feeling of helplessness when they do. He and I have already been through hell when a neighbor's dog bit him in the face, needing several stitches, and that left a large jagged scar by his eye, so I am a little nervous about more facial wounds! My poor little guy. I sure wish I had the ozonated olive oil on hand now, darn it. I ordered it this morning, maybe it will get here in time to still help the wound heal nicely. Thanks again to all for your help. Patty

Guest guest
I worked in a hyperbaric wound healing center for several years and we gave pts 220 mg ZnSO4 BID, 500 mg Vit C BID, MVI BID and Arginaid TID. For the worst cases, we added 10,000 IU Vit A. These would usually run for about 4 weeks. Frequently we continued with MVI QD, 500 mg Vit C QD and Arginaid BID or switched to L-arginine pills due to cost. We had great results with this protocol. Guest guest
The use of supplements such as vit C and zinc does not appear to be evidence based. The last time I tried to find articles, I only found a few references which seemed to support supplementing during the immediate post-injury time frame, like the first month or so, but I found nothing on the longterm benefits. We have a heck of a time at my institution with the doctors ordering too much (tube feedings, canned supplements, MVI/minerals, separate zinc and vit. C, often all of these at the same time!) and ignoring our recommendations when we tell them this could be harmful (e.g. too much zinc interfering with copper metabolism). I checked ADA's new online Nutrition Care Manual in the Wound Healing section. This document does not even mention supplements. I e-mailed them today to ask why. It does contain files on glutamine and arginine, unfortunately these are taken from " Whole Foods Market Health Info Reference Library " which is a pretty sad, no literature cited, reference for a medically-based organization like ADA which is seeking to promote evidence-based practice! http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/healthinfo/list_library.html Hilleary, MPH, RD San Diego VA Healthcare System
Guest guest
I have lots of documentation on this supplementation specifically for stasis and DM type wounds. It is all filed away now that I am not working in that area but I will see if I can find it and send along the references. Guest guest
Dear Bee, I have a wound at the side of my mouth. Like the mouth has cracked as if had opened it to much. It will not heal. It has been there for 3 weeks now. Generally I am really bad at healing wounds. I am suffering badly from candida and I am willing to do anything to get well. If there is any thing I can do, please let me know (ex. an ointment). I am feeling frustrated. There is always something wrong with me, because of the candida. I am so thankfull for this forum and for all your help. Caroline
Guest guest
Hi Caroline, Cracks at the corner of the mouth is called angular cheilitis and is caused by candida. Here is a bit more info on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angular_cheilitis If you are following Bee's diet, it will eventually get better, since you are treating the cause of the symptom - candida. Since all healing comes from within, your best bet is to stay on the program and follow it as closely as possible. In the meantime, try putting coconut oil it to soothe the cracks. I get cracks and peeling on my lips (not the corners) and I find that cod liver oil applied directly to them helps. I usually put this on at night right before bed. Hang in there!
