Hi !

May I know what vegetable oil you use for regular cooking or frying; as salad

oil? Do you take burgers, french fries, fried chicken, bacon and doughnuts, and

how often ?

I surmise that probably the reason why your LDL had gone up more than the HDL

after taking VCO for about 6 months regularly is a result of the regular intake

of bad or unhealthy oils and fats thru consumption other foods. I hope Dr Bruce

Fife and others could share their explanation or thoiughts on this matter.

yes, i guess it's hard to surmise about these numbers w/out knowing

the full picture.

ok so here's what i've been eating mostly for the past several

months:

i eat almost 95% home cooked food by me.

i only cook with high quality virgin coconut oil or ghee (organic

clarified butter). sometimes i was using raw butter on my toast. i

use extra virg olive oil less occasionally.. on my greens.

the only food i eat that is not organic is if i eat out at

restuarants..which is rare.

i have a mostly whole food diet.

fruits are limited, and include goji berries, prunes, banana,

apples..

veggies include raw carrots/celery/daikkon radish, parsley,

cilantro, and cooked kale, collard, broccoli. sometimes squashes,

sweet potatoes, butternut, acorn. sometimes avocados, dandilion

greens, and brussel sprouts.

fermented foods include miso broths (south river), which i put in my

brown rice, farm fresh raw saurkraut, kimchee, raw kefir, raw

kombucha.

i have been increasing intake of greens (mustard, kale, collard),

which i lightly blanch for 1 min.

the only wheat i have is a slice of sprouted grain toast (shiloh

farms) for breakfast. i put vco and some ghee on this, sea salt,

raw kimchee or raw saurkraut, chopped parsley/cilantro, raw goat

cheese, and sliced egg from chickens raised on insects/grass. i eat

both yolk and egg white (i cook my egg by placing in boiling water

for 5-7 min). this breakfast meal makes me feel really good.

i often eat porridges or brown rice. i soak my gluten-free grains

overnight in water and some kefir to get rid of phytic acid.. before

making porridges (following recipe of Nourishing Traditions), and do

same for my brown rice (lundeburg farms)

i have soaked/dried pumpkin seeds, almonds/walnuts.

occasionally i make lentil dishes (split peas, mung, etc).

my diet has been mostly vegetarian, but recently i've added: once a

week wild salmon or wild sardines.

i use spices like cinnamin, turmeric, garlic. and lots of shredded

ginger, fresh squeezed lime.

my drinks only include raw kefir (1/2 to 1 cup), raw kombucha, and

spring water throughout the day. in morning i have water with some

lime, or raw apple cider vinegar. occasionally i'll have reishim

mushroom tea or yerba mate. coffee is very rare..like at a cafe.

deserts are occasional and include ingredients such as: raw honey,

cinnamin, raw 100% cacao, carob, walnuts/banans

supplements: Blue Ice cod liver oil. and i just started primal

defense probiotics.

I am a high metabolic type. i did a few tests..including on

mercola.com.

Based on this diet..i was surprized my cholesterol shot up so much,

especially LDL, and triglyc. But on the other hand, maybe the higher

cholesterol is not a bad thing..i need to learn more about

cholesterol. but i have to say my energy level has gone up since

eating a diet with more good fats. and my weight has not changed.

It would seem that the vco has balanced your cholesterol- your original numbers

were WAYYY too low. Current level is much more healthy.

Your numbers are fine. According to Dr. Tom Cowan, from

a " conventional " point of view your Total Cholesterol/HDL ratio is at

the " no risk " category.

just wanted to update you guys on the why i think my cholesterol shot up so

much in my first six months of using coconut oil in my diet (112- to 185)HDL

went up from 46-69, and LDL went up from 61 to 106.

While i understand that my current cholesterol may not be an issue (i am not

so worried abt it for now), there are two factors i learned of that could

have caused the sharp jump:

1) during those same six months, i also added egg regularly to my diet.

while i have read that cholesterol rich foods dont' necessarily result in

increased serum cholesterol levels in the body, at a nutrition class i

recently attended, the lecuturer said the eggs will not raise cholesterol as

long as the yolk is not cooked to the point at which it gels. ie.if eaten

poached, the egg will not raise the person's cholesterol. but if eaten

boiled, the egg can. i had never heard this before.

does anyone have experience or knowledge on this? i had never heard this

before.

well i have been eating my eggs boiled, and on a daily basis. and i started

eating the eggs around the time i started taking vco. so that's something

to consider.

2) i read that cholesterol is affected by stress/nervousness. i recall

feeling more than usual sensitive about pain and my body got quite tense

when the nurse injected me to draw blood. so..if the above is true, it's

possible my cholesterol shot up due to the stress i felt at that time. any

thoughts on this? if this is the case..it seems it would be important to

get the person to be calm before doing the test right?

anyway, still learning abt cholesterol. just thought i'd share my new

thoughts.

i started eating alot of eggs/ boiled, cooked all the way and my cholesterol did

not go up. i

also use 3 tsp a day vco. but i stopped eating butter, any store bought box

food, cheese.

Can anyone advice how to read a cholesterol test.

It is not for me btw, i just can't remember what ratio i'm looking for

etc. Someone on another site is worried about their high cholesterol

and on a no cholesterol diet. I was telling them a bit about vco and

that the real culprit is polyunsaturated oils.

dogma too, so it's being fought all the way....

I just am fed up with our government's lies and big pharma's lies, to the tune

of billions of dollars that they make in the wake of those lies... Time for

people to wake up...

I'm not surprised about your doctor still prescribing statins. It is his

livelyhood! Have patients coming back for more to the rest of their lives,

that's big money.

While I am not a scientist, I do read a lot and the makers of Crisco

shortening removed coconut oil from their product many years ago after

they learned that the oil was very high in cholesterol producing

agents. Personally I won't eat or use the stuff. Procter and Gamble

used coconut oil because it was relatively cheap to produce and only

changed their formulation when Americans became health conscious and

realized coconut oil was so very bad for their health. I suppose that

in PI it may act as some kind of placebo effect since so many people

believe so strongly in the benefits. Far be it from me to try to tell

everyone they are probably killing themselves

I do know about cholesterol, just couldn't remember how to read a

cholesterol test, as never had one done. I know docs read them

different from the more informed people on this planet. I did know

once but forgotten, that's what hypothyroidism does for you, memory

problems lol.

But i shared info 'cholesterol myths' with lady who was worried about

high cholesterol, which runs in her family apparently, hope you don't

mind.

Somebody else put him straight before I got my chance.

It is actually a group based in The Philippines, so the man was very

much in the minority......I think he knows that now.

Thank you! This exerpt only shows the power of brainwashing. They did it for

so many years that people accept it as the truth. But we are here to discover

the real truth :)

Did anyone read the book by Enig PhD " Eat Fat, Lose Fat " ?

She studied fats for more than 30 years and found out that THE healthiest fat

there is, is butter but coconut oil is close second. Both fats act as guards

against heart disease so we can eat them without guilt and to our health :) And

they both are delicious!

By all means, do share whatever I post here with anyone you see fit. We do want

the word to spread as not everyone has a access to a computer. And I only

posted one link but if you google " cholesterol myths " you will get hundreds and

hundreds of sites that deal with it.

Another very useful thing to know is the harm that statin drugs are doing to

people. Just google " statins side effects " and you will learn about them too.

Hope your friend will learn enough to stop worrying about her cholesterol and

will say no to statins!

Yeah, Barbara, isn't it SO ironic that there is so much " hype " about

how " bad " cholesterol is, and how you should avoid eating foods high

in cholesterol, when your body produces more cholesterol than what

you can eat? And if you don't eat enough cholesterol in your foods,

then your liver makes even more of it to compensate.

And I read that the statin drugs are more beneficial for heart

disease in OTHER ways than they're ability to lower cholesterol.

But it's the cholesterol-lowering effect that they focused on in the

studies.

And, yeah, the negative side affects of the statins, I think,

outweighs any of their benefits.

I literally want to " growl " at every one of the cholesterol drug

commercials, when they come on. People are SO being fed a " crock of

crap. " And they unknowingly fall for it, 'cause I think we tend to

put doctors on a kind of " pedestal, " that they know more than us,

when, they don't, necessarily.

So those of us who have " discovered the truth " have to just do what

WE know is right FOR US, and ignore the erroneous information they

try to " feed " us.

After all, it's not THEIR life that's being affected by their

disinformation. It's OURS, and it's our responsibility to take care

of it to the best of our ability.

And as we all know, knowledge is power.

You said it very well, Cryss :) There is not much that I can add, maybe only

that according to some study, somewhere (forgot where)

for the older woman, the more cholesterol she has the healthier she is and the

better she is able to fight any infectious disease. Isn't this great? But the

big pharma keeps lowering the " normal " level of cholesterol, so they can sell

even more statins!

Cholesterol is essential to life, without it we are dead!

Yeah, Barbara, isn't it SO ironic that there is so much " hype " about

how " bad " cholesterol is, and how you should avoid eating foods high

in cholesterol, when your body produces more cholesterol than what

you can eat? And if you don't eat enough cholesterol in your foods,

then your liver makes even more of it to compensate.

And I read that the statin drugs are more beneficial for heart

disease in OTHER ways than they're ability to lower cholesterol.

But it's the cholesterol-lowering effect that they focused on in the

studies.

And, yeah, the negative side affects of the statins, I think,

outweighs any of their benefits.

I literally want to " growl " at every one of the cholesterol drug

commercials, when they come on. People are SO being fed a " crock of

crap. " And they unknowingly fall for it, 'cause I think we tend to

put doctors on a kind of " pedestal, " that they know more than us,

when, they don't, necessarily.

So those of us who have " discovered the truth " have to just do what

WE know is right FOR US, and ignore the erroneous information they

try to " feed " us.

After all, it's not THEIR life that's being affected by their

disinformation. It's OURS, and it's our responsibility to take care

of it to the best of our ability.

And as we all know, knowledge is power.

I think I might have read that same study, Barbara. It rings a bell.

Gee, maybe the reason I've gotten sick AGAIN, so soon after FINALLY

getting over the last bout (ugh), is because the cardiologist (big

surprise) prescribed LIPITOR. I kept telling all the doctors my

cholesterol level has NEVER been a problem, but they all said

that " new rese

arch " is finding Lipitor helps diabetics. They didn't explain why.

All the cardiologist would tell me is that my " good " cholesterol was

low, and it was, when the test numbers came back.

But ALL of my other numbers were way under the recommended levels--

the " bad " cholesterol, and even my triglycerides. They were

tremendously improved since the last test, a few months ago.

So, once the 1-month supply of Lipitor ran out, I didn't refill it.

I am NOT about to take what I consider to be a completely

unnecessary drug, especially one that has definitely been linked

with muscle pain and weakness.

That was about the end of January, and right in the beginning of

February, I got one hell of a " cold/flu. " Hmm. Coincidence of

timing? Hmm.

So why am I sick again so soon? This is VERY unusual for me. I've

always had a good immune system. I usually get only 1 cold per

winter season.

I have to wonder if all these drugs the cardiologist put me on might

be somehow damaging and weakening my immune system?

All I know for sure, is my nose is plugged, my head hurts, and I

feel like total " crap. " And I'm annoyed as all hell.

Cryss, all drugs have side effects. Remember, the rate of death cases fall

dramatically when doctors go on strike! I usually don't get any colds at all

for several years in a row....but I don't take any drugs, not even an aspirin...

Best to listen to your instincts. It seems your doctor is still buying into

that whole cholesterol myth. There is a ton of evidence out there concerning

the dangers of statin drugs.
