Guest guest
Hi Tom, Bee is away today, but in my experience dried blood becomes black, so I don't think what you are seeing is blood. Perhaps you should have a doctor or a lab check it out if you are concerned. (a group moderator) > > For months now, I have been having little red pointy things in my stool. Guest guest
I'm not a doctor but maybe you have an internal hemorrhoid or anal fissure(tear). My understanding is if the blood is bright red then Usually there is nothing to worry about. Keep an eye on it and it it persists or worsens, see your doctor. Guest guest
Thanks for letting me know. I'm not too concerned because I had a colonoscopy a few months ago. Just curious. > > > > For months now, I have been having little red pointy things in my stool. I don't eat anything that's red so I'm assuming it's dried up blood. Am I wrong to think this? Guest guest
The thing is, I don't know if it's blood or not. It doesn't look like fluid. It looks more like pieces of something. I have no idea what it could be as I don't eat anything red. > > I'm not a doctor but maybe you have an internal hemorrhoid or anal fissure(tear). Guest guest
I'm in nursing school and we were taught if you see bright red blood this is not a good sign because there is internal bleeding somewhere. You probably should see your doctor to be certain. Guest guest
Hi Tom, This is going to sound gross, but could you take it out of the toilet to have a closer look? By nothing red, I'm assuming no tomatoes or red peppers. Their skins, if undigested, would show up as red in your stool. This is a real mystery! Is it worth it to you to have a lab check it out? That isn't true. If there is internal bleeding the blood in the stools will be dark dark red or black. Bright red blood is from the rectum or anus due to fissures or tears. Black or burgundy color has usually gone through some part of the digestive process and been in your tract longer. Bright red just means it's fresher blood so it came from somewhere near your anus. It doesn't mean it's nothing, as polyps or tumors for instance, can occur in your rectum. The original poster said he'd just had a colonoscopy and polyps or tumors take a long time to develop, so it would be highly unlikely to be one of those. If it's actually blood, it's likely to be from a little tear, from a hard stool or a hemorroid or something like that. Also, it doesn't sound like it's a lot of blood either. Crohns or colitis, depending where they're located can also cause bright red bleeding but usually in larger amounts. I would check it out if it was me, just because it's been a pretty regular occurrence from what I'm understanding.
