It seems to me that it should be kept moist, not left to dry out overnight. > +++Hi Sharon, I think cod liver oil will help, but if it is flavoured with lemon since it may sting, or alternatively apply only Vitamin A or Vitamin E oil. You can prick capsules with a pin and squeeze out the oil. Apply it overnight on gauze and tape it on - save the gauze in a plastic bag, and replenish it every night. Leave it off during the day so it gets the air it needs to help heal. Also give him vitamin C (1/3rd of an adult dose) and feed him well.
