Guest guest
Hi Debra, Have you tried eating a boiled egg or some meat? Maybe you could make a bit of chicken or tuna salad (with homemade mayo). A can of tuna and some olive oil travels well. Also, I know you said not to recommend coconut oil, but have you tried Bee's Egg Drink? Most people find it very filling. http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/recipe167.php One other thing my family has found to be a good snack is pork crackling. It's basically baked pork fat. I'm sure you can find a recipe online somewhere. Hope that helps! (a group moderator) > > I've been on this diet and the coconut oil for one week. The results are magical, truly. My nearly chronic constipation for the last 12 years has 100% reversed itself, and, for this I am so freaking grateful. Otherwise, I have no disabling health problems, skin conditions, etc. > > But here's the catch. Every afternoon between 4:30 and 5:30 I get a horrible attack of the munchies. I feel like I need something to nibble on to sustain my energy for the duration of the afternoon. Since I'm unable to cook dinner until sometime between 7:30 and 8:30, there's no way I can go for another 2-4 hours without food. > > I made crispy almonds according to Sally Fallon's recipe. Once I got started, I couldn't stop eating them. I must have plowed through at least 4 cups of almonds between today and yesterday, right around the same time of day. That can't be good. I'll have to stop buying almonds because I evidently don't have the willpower to resist gobbling them down by the hand full. In the past, I might have had a more sensible alternative like a cup of green tea, a few crackers, some artichoke hearts, a few tomato slices, some cheese, maybe a glass of red wine -- a balanced appetizer plate and beverage. With Fitday, I am limited to 11 almonds and 6 olives (I kid you not). > > What can I do to get through this hump in the afternoon, when I'm still expected to be productive for another two hours? I'm probably already consuming more veggies than I should, because I'm having four instead of two cups of salad at lunch. So I can't even pull out a bowl full of raw broccoli and cauliflower florettes to nibble on at this time of day. > > Surely others have experienced this same late afternoon food/energy (or lack thereof) dilemma. And please don't suggest coconut oil as an appetite suppressor, because I've already tried that, and it doesn't work. I welcome any and all suggestions. > > With gratitude, > > Debra >
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for your suggestions. I'm attempting to stick to the balance of carbs/fat/protein, which for me is 75 g protein/60 g carbs/188+ g fat. Anything I eat in the afternoon, including your suggestions, will upset the ratio. Up to this point I have been eating three eggs and veggies in the morning, a large salad and flesh at lunch, (need energy in late afternoon and don't know what to do about it), and then homemade beef or chicken broth for dinner with veggies, and sauerkraut at every meal. This is barely enough food to keep me satisfied. In fact, it's not enough. Weight loss is not my objective (I'm already svelte enough); strengthening my immune system is. I'm still perplexed with what to do about the late afternoon " blahs " and the need for a food pick-me-up. Does it really matter if I amp up the ratio of protein and/or carbs in order to satisfy this late afternoon need to fuel up? What do you think? Trying to stick to this ratio is great for weight loss, but that is not my objective, so I'm wondering if I can tweak it so that I can eat a nice late afternoon snack, like the ones you suggested. Thanks again, Debra > > > > I've been on this diet and the coconut oil for one week. The results are magical, truly. Guest guest
Hi Debra, It's fine to go over your protein and fat ratios for the day if you are really hungry. It's the carb amount that you want to keep low. As long as you keep it in the basic ratio, it's okay to go over your allotted amount for protein and fat.
