Guest guest
Just over two years ago my digestion collapsed. I have had Candida/yeasts/fungal issues for years but did not at the time link the collapse with it. After dumping gluten and most carbs the stomach pain went and the raging diarrhea and gradually, by following the principles of the Specific Carb Diet I have been rebuilding my digestion. Rather stupidly, just over a week ago I decided to do a fast. I had felt for a while as if things were going backwards. I didn't know then that not only should Diabetics not do fasts, but neither should those with Candida. As my external fungal symptoms had all but subsided I had assumed that the internal ones had too. Although diabetic and on insulin, I had been eating very low carb and my body was used to that so going on the fast was not a problem and I have had no hypos or anything, but 4 days into the fast I suddenly developed horrendous gas in my upper intestine and/or stomach. It pushed everything up and my BP went up - I thought I was going to die! It just wouldn't stop and I had hardly any sleep. Because everything was out of place I have also had problems actually getting the gas up. I think that my small intestine is quite bloated and may even be out of position as I can feel movements above my waist in the upper half of my back. Within a couple of days I had twigged that I may inadvertently have triggered a Candida overgrowth and started throwing coconut oil down my throat. I thought I was dealing with it that way but this evening the gas all came back again, and I just can't figure out why. Apart from some veg I have had hardly any carbs at all. Does any one have any ideas please why this might be happening and what else I can do to stop it?
Guest guest
In reply to myself, there is a tentative possibility that I may have worked out what is going on. I suspect that I may have had a serious B deficiency. I have long recognised that Brewer's yeast (I have no nutritional) would settle an upset/gassy stomach, but hadn't made the connection with possible B deficiency as a cause. Perhaps inflammation or the Candida or something depleted me of the B vitamins during the fast and that was why my stomach reacted so violently. I had all this gas but it died down the day before yesterday and was fine all night. But last night it was horrendous again. I was racking my brains as to why, and then in the middle of the night I suddenly remembered that I had mixed a tablespoon of BY into my pureed dinner the previous evening. I hadn't taken any at all yesterday. So I shot down to the kitchen and had a tablespoon of BY in some warm water and within about 10 minutes it had all calmed down. As I had only just started the diet proper over the last two days I haven't yet got into the supplements, but I am now wondering if this is the reason I have felt as if I have been going backwards, even though I was very low carb. Unfortunately, although you would have thought it to be one of the most important things, the NHS doesn't test for deficiencies - well not until people are extremely ill with undeniable symptoms (and even then they don't always work it out)! I will continue with the BY until I can get some nutritional, and the other supplements I have until I can get them all and hopefully it will start to sort itself out. Thank you to anyone who might have replied! Ali. PS. It seems that BY and nutritional are often made from the same yeast strain, so is there really any major difference (apart from the price!)? Seems to me that if they call it Nutritional, they can charge more for it! > > Just over two years ago my digestion collapsed. I read both of your messages. To help with gas/burping you can drink raw ginger tea - here's the recipe on my website: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/recipe178.php However, the SCD still contains too many carbs, foods that are high in carbs and damaging foods, so you will do much better doing my program. That's why so many people come here after trying SDC. Also brewer's yeast may appear to help you but in the long run they will cause you more problems too. My program includes a number of things you need to do to improve your digestion, so please ensure read two important articles so you know what you need to do and why: 1) How to Successfully Overcome Candida http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro2.php 2) Curing Candida, How to Get Started http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/intro1.php For encouragement and inspiration see these wonderful Success Stories by members of this group: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/success/index.php All the best, Bee
Guest guest
Thank you Bee. Just out of interest I came across Laboratories Nutritional Brewers yeast flakes which are higher in nutrition and taste nicer that ordinary Brewers Yeast. Would that be ok if I can get hold of some? I live in the UK and don't have access to the range you do in the States. I have found a UK supplier of the flakes who may be able to get me some. Instead, take vitamin B complex as described in my supplements lists: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/supp1.php#ac All the best, Bee
