What is your name? Maybe other members can help you about buying from Whole Foods, but I can't since I live in Canada. It is difficult to find " pure " lard these days, and some lard being sold has a mixture of fits in it so be careful about what you buy. I know many people who make their own lard - here's how to do it: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/lard1.php The best, Bee
Guest guest
Hi There: ***We like to go by first names here, so please let us know what to call you. > > > > can i buy lard at whole foods market or do i need to make it from pig fat as per the website? *** Be careful. The lard I have found on the shelf in grocery stores has been hydrogenated and you definitely don't want that. I get pork fatback from butchers (or farmers at green markets on occasion) and then render my own. It's actually very easy, and it adds great flavor to cooking (especially meats and fish), It's a little like cooking in bacon grease but not as strong. I entered " lard " in the search engine (found in the upper right hand corner) and came up with this: <http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/recipes/lard1.php> I need to find more pork fat, myself, as we're about out. , moderator
Guest guest
There's a complete method for making lard in this fantastic cookbook by McLagan. As well as a lot of really great info. The book actually won a Beard award. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2008/09/15/f-mclagan-fat.html On 19-May-11, at 2:39 PM, kllaurvick wrote: > > > > > Yeah, in retrospect, I should have just googled what they are, > duh, sorry. > > I just cannot find any other lard, so I'll have to try to order > some from a health food store. > > Thanks Bee, sorry to waste you time on that, > > Tina > > *** Tina - you can make your own lard: > > This article is found on Bee's website. Guest guest
Thanks , before I asked about lard I had used the search engine in the corner but put in 'lard bht' and it came up with nothing. Thanks I will try if I cannot find some from health food supplier. Tina > *** Tina - you can make your own lard: > > This article is found on Bee's website.
