I believe that Milk Thistle is an herbal detoxifier and liver cleanser and you

can buy it at any drug store, vitamin shop or health food store.

, go to your local health food store and ask them if there are any

interactions with your medication, I can look when I go to work, but they should

be able to tell you by looking up your medication. From what I know about milk

thistle, it will gently clean your liver which stores fat deposits and toxins,

but I am sure there are other alternatives to losing weight. Maybe put (I know

this sounds ironic) but more good fats. The oils like evening primrose oil. If

you don't mind me asking, do you exercise, go for walks? What's your diet like.

I may be of some help, I work at a health food store, and my mother is a

personal trainer. So I am familiar. I am willing to help if you have any

questions.

Alyson, Thanks, I have bought it last night mg is 175. I assume that I

take it two to three times a day with meals. Is this a high enough

dose to take?

I eat very little, walk(three miles a week) or tread mill. I take good

fats, coconut oil mostly.

I will be trying it next week.

Thanks

According to my herb book, Mik Thistle is very safe to take and it is advisable

to take specially when taking AEDs (Depakote, Depakene, Valproic Acid) since

these meds can cause liver problems.

I find it interesting that my child can not tolerate milk thistle. Should I

give Carnitine instead?

If your child is taking Valproic Acid, Depakote, Depakene he/she should

definitely be taking Carnitine because they all can cause a deficiency in

carninite which can be very dangerous.

I absolutely positively second that. The research is very clear on the need

for carnitine with the drugs mentioned.

Does anyone know what a deficiency in carnitine would look like in terms of

Sounds like your on a great track!! The milk thistle has very beneficial

cleansing benefits, your body will respond great to purification. Exercising,

wonderful! Keep up the good work. The dosage of the milk thistle, just read the

suggested dosage follow the instructions, don't take more, don't take less

unless necessary. Some formulas are stronger, You may want to look into a

cleanse that will promote cleasing of all channels. The herbs are professional

mixed so they work synergistically in detoxifying your body as a whole, and

people will shed a couple of pounds. But it is a great way to start a new weight

loss routine. Hope all goes well..

I work with a shiatsu massage therapist and it really is wonderful as a

detoxifier and a stress reliever. Massage is a great deal more beneficial

than most people give it credit for. The salt bath sounds fabulous! Wish

that my therapist had things like that.

OK, my nutritional healing book says to take 200 to 400 milligrams 3 x a day.

Right now I'm taking 500Mg's 2 x a day. I have just learned recently that I

have hep c so I can't say if the thistle is helping. I have been having a

problem with my legs and feet cramping, which is new to me and I chalk up to low

potassium. I want to know why though. Is it the milk thistle, I haven't read

anything to that affect. Or a hep c side affect that I haven't read about

either. Good luck to you. Jeri

Jeri Milkthistle was fist reported being used by Roman physicians for liver

complaints in 300A.D. Now anything that stays around that long and is picked up

by so many cultures must have some inherent valuse. Basically my guess would be

it reduces inflamation and increases blood flow through the liver. I definitley

have derived benefit from it. If you are expecting a cure. No it is not going to

cure you. However in large doeses it does make the disease more tolerable.

Anything that helps a little should not be disregarded. I Take 500 miligrams a

day. Check out Vertex Company and the protease inhibitor VX-950. It will be on

pharmacy shelves by 2010. It is a real deal cure. Cheers, Cary

Thanks for the info. As a side note, i had severe muscle cramps/ achiness as a

side effect when I was taking an herbal supplement to try to regulate my

menstural cycle. It was a mixture of herbs, but I think milk thistle may have

been one of them. Not sure, because it has been several years. Anyway, thanks so

much. Have a great day.

....low calcium & magnesium can do that too. eat some broccoli & all better

quick. i'mm a painter/paperhanger & working on ladders using forarms/upper

body a lot, often long hours running on empty, i go through this. a salad

bar hit with meaningful greens (not iceberg)calcium enriched orange juice

(the good tropicana NFC) & a banana or two does wonders immediately.

I started taking milk thistle after I failed interferon in 95 per an article

my brother sent me by Dr Weil - I know a lot of people disagree with Dr Weil

but I followed his advice - I take Natures Way brand (yes, he recommended

that brand) and I started out like he said to - I took 700 mg (4 caps) for a

month and then cut back to 2 caps a day or 350 mg ever since. I've continued to

take that brand and that dose for all these years = 11 and I feel great and

have no liver damage. I have no idea if it helps or not but I wouldn't ever

quit.

I also have taken Olive leaf to lower the viral load per Dr Weil again and

my viral load stays low but does increase as the years go by but they went from

10K to 175K over the past 11 yrs and hasn't gotten into the millions like

alot of people I know so you just never know? I also quit drinking alcohol

when I was 20 because I'm an alcoholic so that might be the only real reason

I'm

ok - I do wonder but I'm not giving up my herbs - Kerry
