When you write about a day of 1200, 1500 calories, 1800 calories or even more, it helps me to have hope that I can and will do this some day! Thanks,Faye __________________________________________________

But Faye, it is soooooo easy! Just open up www.fitday.com and enter every

morsel that enters your mouth. Piece of cake!

Oops. Bad analogy. :) Of course I'm being silly. It is soooooo easy

until I fall flat on my face and fail horribly. For right now I'm

succeeding though. Heck. I thought it was day 3 but it's day 4!!! I've

entered my calories for 4 days! 1862, 2057, 1737 and 1583. Am I smokin or

what? :)

The problem I face time and time and time and time again is how to maintain

this for the long term. In January and Feb. I entered food in fitday for

about 41 days. I lost 19 pounds from Jan. 10 - Feb. 21 but then my

daughter's birthday came and I just could never get back on track. I gained

it all back plus 6 pounds. I've had 4 good days but how do I turn that into

400 good days so I can really lose this weight? I was totally motivated and

focused last time and I still ended up blowing it. How do we make this time

different???

Argh! This is so friggin hard. Maybe the scalpel is the only answer.

Ann,

I totally believe that you can turn 4 days into 400 days. I think we just have to remember that every day is not going to be perfect. One day our carbs might be too high, one day our fats might be too high. It's just the fact that each day we try and we write the stuff we eat down.

Just keep trying and taking one day at a time.

How many of us on this list have made it to 400 days or even 200 days? Even

100 days? Every time I try, I *know* I can do it but I still fail. Very

frustrating. Still, I'm looking at this as my time to succeed. Insanity is

repeating the same actions and expecting a different outcome. We have to do

something differently this time to succeed.

You guys are freaking me out talking about the holidays. I always fail over

the holidays. That's not negative talk, it's just a fact. Looking back

over my weight spread sheet.... 2002 holidays I blew it, 2003 holidays the

same thing, 2004 holidays I apparently didn't even try. I started on Jan.

10 2005 and made it 41 days.

Our holidays start Oct. 4 with Lynn's birthday. This year we're going to

skip the kid party and go to San for the long Columbus Day weekend.

Then Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, Christmas, New Year's, our

anniversay and Valentine's Day. :) Only 4.5 months of merry making. :)

Honestly only 8 days though. I should be able to survive 8 days over 4.5

months.

Gotta get the kids to school then go get my stitches out. How the heck am I

going to drive all the way to the other side of Houston with no book on

tape???? I finished the one I'm listening to and my next one hasn't come in

at the library.

I think you probably need to increase your calories. Your body is in starvation mode and is hoarding every morsel it can right now. Increase the calories and increase the water. Don't worry about not losing right now. It will come off eventually! Your body HAS to adjust! Hi . I added it up the other day and I think I'm only

getting between 500-700cals a day, too! I really have to work to

get more in. I've started walking on a treadmill at the gym. Your

body may have gone into " starvation mode " and that's why your not

loosing. Try to get more calories in. I know it's hard! You'll

probably start loosing.

Um, are you meaning something that tells you what a particular activity

burns in calories? If so, here's one site (found it by searching

for " burn calories " ).

http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/jumpsite/calculat.htm

If you're meaning how many calories you need to just maintain where you

are, there's this site (found it by searching for " calories needed per

day " ). http://www.caloriecontrol.org/calcalcs.html

Does this help? :o)

Thank you so much! great info. A general question: I have read about "slippage" "erosion" and "having the band removed" - what is that condition (of course I understand the removal...but why) what are the symptoms and causes and how corrected? I was banded last April, doing well and feeling great...way better than many my age (71) but have never asked these questions. Thanks, joanne

I was surprised to find out that in spite of the fact that I excercise

daily, work and rarely sit down...I wasnt burning as much as I needed

to . I bought a Body Bugg and when I started using it, it tells you

what your body does each day. SO I had to really kick it up notch. I

need to burn 2300 cal per day to create a deficit big enough to allow

me to lose 1.5-2lbs per day. I would suggest getting one, they are

great!

I did a little research after I read this post and it looks like they

are pretty expensive if you get a new one, but there are a couple on

e-bay. There is a monthly fee to track your calories online. I

googled " bodybug " and got prices, product reviews, and a link to the

body bug website. Pretty cool.

To try to lose 1.5-2 pounds per day is not healthy.

In my opinion when your weight is down that far you shouldn't be

losing that fast. What does it say for a pound a week or a half pound

a week? Remember, the lower your weight, the longer it is going to

take to lose it.

Hi - I agree with Dan that this is too low. you need, imo, to be

around 1200 minimum. otherwise, your metabolism " set point " will be way

too low, and you'll very easily regain when you start to eat more

calories, as you must. you can't live on 800 cal a day.

Also, there is just no way you can be meeting the protein, fiber,

calcium, good carb, and omega 3 oil daily needs in this small amt of

calories. You're surely deficient by now.

the 2# a week is the average for people much heavier - at your present

weight .5 to 1 # a week, on average, is much safer and healthier -

assuming you want to keep the weight off.

I'd really urge you to increase your calories, and also get onto the

Bandster vitamins to start making up deficiencies.

Dr. Swoboda has a pretty good page on nutrition on her website. Her

recommendations for calories go by length rather than weight. You can check

it out here:

http://medicine.utah.edu/neurology/research/swoboda/sma/PDFs/SMA%20General%20Nut\

rition%20Guidelines.pdf

I love the site in general. There are great bits on respiratory care and

research and such:

Hi, I used to see a dietician when I went to my pulmonologist. I am not sure how

many calories I eat. I am 40 pounds and 22 years old. They added powered protien

to my feeding recently to make sure I was getting enough nutrients. I eat during

the day though and am worried that if I gained too much weight it might affect

my ability to move around like I can now. I would ask your doctor if they have a

dietician on staff or they can recommend one. Even though I am underweight for

my age I am pretty healthy overall. If I were to get too heavy it would be

harder for my caregivers to lift me. Hope this helps,

I have seen a nutritionist a few times as referred by my pulmonologist. I had an

extremely hard time gaining weight my whole life. I was fifty pounds forever,

then sixty pounds forever, etc. I think when I started working with this

pulmonologist about three years ago, I weighed around sixty five pounds and I

was about in my mid to late thirties. The nutitionist loaded me up with all

kinds of protein powder and pills..way more than I could keep up with on a daily

basis. I used one or two things for awhile, but I don't use any of that stuff

now, except the calcium and vitamin D.

I believe what has caused me to gain weight is a combination of the bi-pap and

the medication for osteoporosis. The medication has caused me to regrow some

bone, and the bi-pap is giving me more energy, so I'm more active and I eat

more. Some of it may also be the fact that women often gain weight as they age.

I have been amazed to see the scale tipping every time I go to the doctor. :) I

went yesterday, and my weight was 77.6 pounds! While overall that is good news,

at the same time I am somewhat weaker than I used to be before the weight. I am

still predominantly ambulatory. My main problems are not being to get up from

the floor like I used to, and lifting things seem to be a little harder. My

balance is definitely getting worse. I am having a lot of pain currently in my

shoulders and neck. But I don't know if that is from the weight gain.

I would rather not gain much more weight at this point, but it is hard because

I've never had to try to limit my food! I always ate whatever I wanted whenever

I wanted, and didn't pay attention to fat grams, calories, etc. But now that I'm

in my early forties, I'm thinking about cholesterol, etc. My blood pressure is

still good, but its creeping up. So I'm trying to slowly cut down on fat and eat

lower fat alternatives. I never thought I'd have to think about dieting. :) My

doctor would like me to be about 85 pounds, but I think that's too much.
