Does anyone know how many calories a child is suppose to get daily.....

like at 1 year of age or

like at 2 years of age

Cant ever seem to find this any where....

I think that weight loss is secondary with ER4YT. It's more for regaining

health, I believe. I have never been able to lose much weight on this diet

unless I restricted the calories and increased the exercise and I'm still a

fatboy.

Yes, I don't get that!??? If I'm going to eat 1000 calories a day, I could

lose weight eating anything, bread, milk, pasta, etc. I've done it before!!!

I thought there were lots of people out there who have lost tons of weight

just eating HB and neutrals and not really paying attention to how

much....???? Why not me?!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! I'm really close to

giving up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, Amy, you're not so different at all. I have been on this diet for over 3

years and have yet to drop those unwanted pounds. But then, I don't keep track

of my portions too well either. Feeling better than ever though....

I'm a nonnie and I did lose weight (35 lbs) by just eating mostly HB

and neutrals. However, I did exercise intensely 4 times a week or more

for at least an hour, often 90 minutes. Without lots of good exercise

(which you must ease into if you're not use to it), low calories is the

only other way.

For me (and everybody is different), it's getting my body in a burn

mode. Lots of protein, little or no avoids, and lots of exercise puts

me in calorie burning mode and weight loss occurs. Lots of protien, a

few avoids and enough exercise (3 times a week 45 minutes) puts me into

a maintenance mode.

Don't give up - just experiment & research. We're all different and

change over time as well. You just need to find what works for you.

Dont' give up !!!!

When I started the diet I did not have a lot of weight

loss right away, so I posted a daily meal on '

site, and he replied back to me " eat more protein "

Ah ha !! and it worked.....lord do I eat meat. Today I

weight in 20 less than I did at the begining of the

year. I have not started my exercise yet. I do not eat

any grains....no carbs, rarely eat fruit, have a small

juice can of pineapple juice everyday, but that is it.

My diet is green veggies, beef, and seafood.

I have not gotten my secretor status done yet, but I

will say this has to be very important, as my husband

is one of the A subtypes that is no grains also. He

eats lots of veggies, fish, and poultry. No grains. He

was actually putting on weight as we started this

diet, as the A diet is very high carb.

O's are basically no grainers.....even neutral grains

do not benefit me. Every once in a while I get a

serious carb craving, and make some Ezekial bread and

butter. Other than that......I am a No Grain Gal.

Emmi, and others,

When you talk about wanting to lose weight..just how

much weight are you wanting to lose? I am eating to

lose weight and for health. I am 5'7, med frame, and

very porportion in my build..hourglass figure when

slimmer.

Please ladies do not buy into the media's perception

of beautiful. I know I will never weight 125 again

like in HS, nor do I think I will make the health

insurance chart of 145. When I started the diet I

weighted 254, I am down to 235, I have 2 weight goals,

199 and 165. Even if I do not make the 165, I will be

very happy to have lost 55 pounds....I only have 35 to

go now :-)

We all have different body types and muscle make up. I

can also say from the men I have talked to, very few

prefer rail thin, super slim, aneoirex type looking

women. Even in the premenopause book I read by Dr Lee,

it states that though men do admit to looking, when

given picture prefer they prefer more real looking

women.

I am realistic, and know after having 3 large

children, I will never be where I was when I was

younger. I am also older and age factors into every

thing at this point, along with hormones, so I am

striving for realistic weight loss, and great health.

Are you following the palm/fist method? If so, I'd say don't worry

about it. When I put my stats in fitday, I get about 40% protein,

40% carbs, 20% fat...but I try to base my meals on palm/fist ratios

rather than weighing/measuring.

I do follow the palm/fist method for everything. I'm going to

attempt to up my protien a bit and get my fat lower. Just means I'm

going to have to chow more cottage cheese I guess. Maybe I can try

fat free CC instead of low fat. If it's anything like fat free sour

cream... ick.

I can't help it; my brain does the math for me. I eat 1300-1400

cals, 2000 or so on my free day (I have one-two smaller free meals).

I average about 1400 but that's without the 1 tbsp flax oil.

There have been times when I've counted everything frantically, and times when

I've said the hell with it. :-) My stress levels were much lower when I just

stuck to portions. My results have been good either way. I say, stick with

approved foods and make sure you're getting enough protein. Don't start worrying

about calories unless your results stop.

How important is counting calories specifially in the grand scheme of things?

Is that something that everyone should be doing? I have no idea where to start

with that. Or would portion sizing it (as long as you stick within approved

foods) be good enough?

Hi Nortina!

I, for one, can drive myself absolutely insane when I count calories.

It's frustrating and maddening to me--when I've tried to do it

before, I've only been successful for a few days, then either I binge

or just forget it entirely. I had great success during C1 and C2 just

doing palm/fist. Now I only count cals when I change up ratios, and

then it's only to figure out how my portion sizes should change. In

the overall scheme of things, I don't think it's necessary at all.

That happens a lot, which is why we're told to keep track of what we eat, to write it down, count it, draw pictures of it, etc. We put our minds in diet mode, tell ourselves we have to stop eating so much, and wind up going from "diet" to "starvation" without realizing it.

Sure, we lose a lot of weight for a while while starving, but eventually our metabolism catches on and slows down to keep us from making ourselves sick.

I think this is why I end up only being able to lose 25> pounds before I hit a plateau that I just can't shake, get frustrated and> revert back to the old habits.

A few years ago, while on a very low fat, high complex carb vegetarian food plan (McDougall's Maximum Weight Loss - url in Links section) I went from 292 to 246 in just a few months then plateaued. When I started counting calories, I was around 1000/day, and figured to get out of the plateau I had to eat less, and went down to around 800/day. What a fool! I actually started to gain weight at that amount!

Finally I knew I had to bite the bullet, drop the plan, and eat more, attempting to let my body know that a famine is *not* coming, that the metabolism can start up again any time it's ready. Well, that was about 20 pounds ago and back in Spring 2000, and I'm still waiting for the metabolism to start up again. At age 49, and 49 years of yo-yo dieting, things are taking their own sweet time. (Yes, I was put on my first calorie restricted diet a few days after birth)

This is why and other diet gurus say to make sure we get enough calories, and have charts developed to tell us what we *should* be eating for our current weight. At a bit over 250 I should be eating around 2000 calories a day plus exercising around a half hour a day to lose weight. Since I don't do that much exercise on a daily basis, I keep my calories a bit under that level, but not by much.

Someone please tell me if I'm wrong, but I read in most fitness

magazines that a good general rule of thumb is to eat 10 times your

body weight for fat loss, so in your case, I'd say 1400-1500 calories

per day.

portions. I have been on the

program for 4 1/2 weeks and have lost 13 pounds. I would like to

lose another 10. Counting calories gets so complicated for me, so I

just add extra. I am still

losing very fast, probably too fast. I think each meal should be

about 300 calories,so that would be 1800 plus 1000 at least for

nursing.

Also keep in mind the body will use at least 1000 cal a day to feed

the baby...but with TWO babies it will use more! Do not skimp while

you're feeding those little guys!

I am using the pal fist method and I only get around 1200 calories but I

do not worry about trying to get the 25-30 grams- I just started and the

ease of the fist/palm method are making it much easier for me.

Since you are counting grams- are the portions bigger than they would be

with the palm/fist method?

What are most of you who have 10-15 pounds to lose eating in terms of

calories? I have been following the palm/fist method, but also

steering for 25-30g of protein/carbs per meal. Yesterday I had almost

1700 calories! I know I need more to fuel my muscles, but is this

right? I am also thinking about doing the zigzag thing, eating more

on my weightlifting days. Any advice, opinion, would be awesome.

Thanks. I am having a very difficult day today as I was up most of

the night with horrible stomach problems. I am planning on going to

the Dr. next week as this has been a recurring problem for me in the

last few months. So I'm feeling very weak and tired, but I still plan

on doing my lowerbody workout later, it's just going to be very

trying.

If you are doing strict BFL, you don't need to count calories, altho

I know some people like to have an idea anyway. YOu can try hussman's

site, http://www.hussman.org/fitness/index.htm

Just remember the key to BFL is to keep it simple so try not to

overwhelm youself with calorie counting, etc.

Thanks Nina. It is actually only a little ice cream and only after I

workout. Trust me, even with the ice cream I do good to get in the

800 calories. Please don't tell Dr. A on me. ;)

you are correct the clear protein is for the first 2 weeks and the shakes and powders are starting week 3.

I have to also give kudos to those who count calories, and fat grams,

and keep food journals, exercise journals, and all that. Man, that's

one thing I just CAN NOT discipline myself to do.

so I bow to those who do in admiration!!
