Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, so it isn't technically a salt. Salt is the combination of 2 minerals: sodium + choride. But Epsom salt does help pull out toxins, and so does hot water. I've heard of black sludge coming out of people's bodies before, but not necessarily because of Epsom salt baths. So thanks for letting me know about it. Bee since the hot water and the Epsom salt work together pulling out more toxins.
Guest guest
You probably have hard water....lots of minerals. I have included a link so you can read about it. Heat will intensify the chemical reaction....it is a wonderful sixth grade science experiment! http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/homeexpts/SOFTWATR.html Joan > Hey everyone, > > Hope you all had a nice holiday! > > This is probably a weird question, but does anyone else get black slugde-like residue in the bottom of their tub after an Epsom salt bath? > > I notice this a lot, with some days being more than others. Guest guest
I agree with both Bee and Joan. Epson Salt is Magnesium Sulfate and there could be a chemical reaction occurring. In some chemical processes, a Sulfate (Sulfur and Oxygen) does react with Chlorine to produce a black residue. The water in your area may be hard or heavily chlorinated as Joan suggested. You may also want to fill the tub as usual but not sit in it and see what happens. The reaction may occur by itself because of the heat. If nothing happens, it may just mean that your body acts as a catalyst for the chemical reaction to occur. > > > > Hey everyone, Hope you all had a nice holiday! > > > > This is probably a weird question, but does anyone else get black slugde-like residue in the bottom of their tub after an Epsom salt bath? > > > > I notice this a lot, with some days being more than others. Guest guest
Thanks for the input everyone! I was wondering about some sort of chemical reaction.....and now I understnad why. I was having nightmares about this black goo trying to get out of my body...lol..... now I can rest easier. Carolyn <sinp> > I agree with both Bee and Joan. That is strange because when I lived in Calgary, Alberta it was the very hardest water I had ever experienced in cities I'd lived in before. I was constantly fighting lime buildup. I took a lot of hot Epsom salt baths which didn't produce any kind of sludge. I got a brand new tub after I moved in, so it would have been obvious if sludge was there after my baths. Guest guest
Just as a note: We DO have hard water. I have a difficult time cleaning the " pink tinge " off things. The residue I am getting is black and goo-like. Interestingly, it is located in certain areas in tub, especially where my body sits. I can clearly see where I placed my feet, where my hands were placed and my back. Strange huh? <snip> You probably have hard water....lots of minerals. <snip> > +++Hi Joan. Guest guest
When I had even worse yeast...and during my pregnancy...I would get black rings on my skin under my platinum wedding ring. Not all the time, only sometimes when my balance was off. I never did figure it out, but I have even turned gold jewelry black over the years. I bet you are detoxing and something you are cleansing is mixing with something in your tub (a coated metal?) to give this weird black look. It is like a mood tub LOL. Wish I were more help. I find that very interesting, and I believe it is toxins coming out of your body - that's why you take Epsom Salt baths. You can be thankful that awful stuff is coming out! I've heard of people detoxifying sludge from under their fingernails too, like people who do a lot of painting for a living. In fact my fingernails have gone through many things, including hard dry cuticles due to nail polish removers, paint cleaners and thinners (I used to do a lot of oil painting). Oil paints in different colors have appeared out of no where under my nails - some colors are obvious, like burnt sienna! lol! Don't be concerned, celebrate the fact that you are getting rid of toxins! Like I wrote before, the water in Calgary was extremely hard and chlorinated, and I took a hot Epsom Salt bath at least once a week. I never had sludge appear so it has nothing to do with minerals. But remember I was cured of candida and had already done a lot of detoxifying. All the best, Bee
