antibiotics for dental procedure??

In Dec. will be having a tooth extracted because of an infected root canal that

was done about 15 years ago. They will also be doing a bone graft to fill the

cavitation in my jaw & following up with an implant in 6 months. I go to a

holistic dentist, but I am going to a specialist for this procedure. He gave me

a prescription for amoxicillin to start the morning of the procedure. I DO NOT

want to take ANY antibiotics. They say it's necessary because they will be

opening up an infected area. I know it is normal to prescribe antibiotics for

some dental procedures but is this absolutely necessary? I have not taken any

antibiotics in 15 years. I know it's ultimately my choice, but I don't want to

cause problems either way. Has anyone had a similar experience? Any advice would

be appreciated.

Thanks,

Donna
