Guest guest
Fioricet contains a barbiturate. Barbs are highly addictive and are known to alter the GABA receptors in the brain. I know someone who was thrown into a hellacious withdrawal after having been on that headache med for a while and then his doctor took him off cold turkey. The problem ended up 100x's worse than it was before he took this junk. To " fix " the problem, they put him on benzos and he is living a nightmare now and hooked on benzos. Good old medicine. They create a whole new problem so you forget what your old one was. > > Dear Bee & Group > Years ago, I had relentless headaches. Doc Rx'd Fioricet, good for migraines & other pain. I used Excedrin a lot & took Fioricet at night. Long story short, my headaches increased. I learned that Fioricet is known to cause rebound headaches & pain...more, more, more is needed. > Excedrin of course has caffeine, so pretty soon you're getting headaches because your body wants that caffeine. Guest guest
I have not had rebound headaches from using Fioricet. I first got them back when I had episodic bad headaches and eye pain (from dryness!), and I asked for a pain medication that would not put me to sleep at the same time that it eased off my headaches. (I was given Vicodin over 10 years ago, when I had pleurisy with a serious case of bronchitis, and it was just way too sedating. I could not do my work with more than 1/2 tablet of Vicodin on board.) But I would think that, worse than caffeine, all three of these medications contain acetaminophen, which is known to be toxic to the liver, and it will be something else from which to detox (for me, anyway) down the road. I have been taking Fioricet and now Excedrin (instead) for leg pain. I'm sorry, I tried using both the oil of oregano externally and white willow bark internally, but the combination just didn't ease the pain enough to leave me functional (able to work and concentrate, and also to walk around). The oil of oregano works well for leg pain--up to a point. We're allowed some minimal caffeine on this plan, since we can have green tea, which does have some caffeine (not as much as black tea). I'm also familiar with caffeine cravings... when I used to drink coffee at work, I'd have a headache the first night I started drinking coffee, then I'd have a headache when I tried to quit coffee again. Believe me, I agree with eating and taking care of ourselves as close to nature as possible... but I am now temporarily taking Excedrin because it allows me to function. I wish I had the luxury available of taking a major leave from work and using it to get through some of the worst of whatever healing reactions are coming, but that's not an option. When people do the Gerson therapy and come to their hospital in Mexico to get started, they frequently come with a companion or family member, because they often need someone to become a full-time helper to them, because that program is very, very labor-intensive. (I know this from reading, not from direct experience.) I think Gerson is a good program but very complicated. My only option to get through Bee's program is to pretty much do it myself. My SO helps me when he can, but he doesn't even really cook, and he's kind of skeptical of the healing reaction I've been through so far.
