They do it all the time in Japan. You can buy over the counter salts to add to your bath to turn your bath into a Sulfur Spa. Enjoy Colin Hi there group - please can I use your collected knowledge to ask if any of you know any alternative ways of getting rid of scabies? I don't want to cover myself head to foot in pesticides (standard treatment) as I'm breastfeeding my 11-month old baby (who will also need treating), and apparently there are cases of braindamage etc caused by them. I asked her to ask the Dr. & she did not & he said he would not have Rxed it. It did not even work to get rid of the scabies. What did work & was totally safe was to make an herbal oil of some strong herb like Oregano or Pennyroyal & applying that to the body. Just use Olive ol or almond oil & let the herbs set a few days in it, then you can strain the herbs out. Sage works good too. The bugs cannot stand the herbs. It totally got rid of them for me. It literally does kill everything but you. I've never seen it fail. Hibiclens - in any drug store in USA , it is neurotoxic but won't pass through the skin. Some people use it as antibacterial deodorant. Dries stiff in the hair. Much bigger than germs but small enough so you cant see them with the naked eye. I have had them and they are a pain. Especially if you never had them before and they get out of hand because you dont know what it is. they are very contagious. the way I had to get rid of them was get the quell cream from the doctor, you put it all over your body and hair for a set amount of time. then you have to wash all the clothes and bed sheets and everything to get rid of them as they will stay on any cloth to transfer to others and again to yourself. Basically decontaminate the whole house and your self to get rid of them. It is what the doctors prescribe but I want to avoid that and use only natural methods. That quell cream, is that a prescription? I've never known anyone else in my family having that problem but it sure is annoying. Especially when it wakes me up. The prescriptions I've gotten so far haven't done anything so I appreciate this bit of advice. I'll still work on the bugs too. E.d. When I eventually went to a doc he prescribed this lotion to put all over my body but the point is, he said they don't live above the neck. He said not to put the lotion above my neck and after two applications over about ten days they ceased to exist and I was thankfully free of them. The lotion contained Gamma Benzine Hexachloride which is pretty heavy duty but thankfully the application was short lived. If your scalp is itching I'd say it was something else entirely. When I eventually went to a doc he prescribed this lotion to put all over my body but the point is, he said they don't live above the neck. He said not to put the lotion above my neck and after two applications over about ten days they ceased to exist and I was thankfully free of them. The lotion contained Gamma Benzine Hexachloride which is pretty heavy duty but thankfully the application was short lived. If your scalp is itching I'd say it was something else entirely. My question is: will coconut oil kill off the scabies? I have read that coconut oil does, but I have not found anything in detail on the subject. I take 5 tablespoons a day of VCO and also use it on my skin. Will that stop me from getting it? And my granddaughter has it. The doctors perscribed pesticide medication for her. However, everything that that person has been in contact with needs to be treated as if it also is infected with scabies. I'm talking about sheets, mattress, backpack, etc. These can all be put in the sun and let the UV rays do their work. The dryer works too for things like clothes. The Itch of Scabies Scabies, also called sarcoptic mange, is caused by a microscopic mite (Sarcoptes scabiei) that burrows into the skin, causing an allergic reaction and severe itching within several weeks. Lesions formed by scratching can lead to secondary bacterial infections, and serious complications may result, especially following Group A streptococcal infections, leading to heart and renal disease. Human scabies is nearly always caught from another person by close contact, according to the American Academy of Dermatology, and most often occurs in crowded living conditions. Scabies mites are attracted to warmth. After the female mite lays her eggs in a human’s skin, she produces toxins that cause the allergic reactions. When the eggs hatch, the larvae travel to the surface of the skin and develop into adults. Mites that are scratched off the skin can survive in bedding for 24 hours or longer. New Scabies Study Researchers from the Queensland Institute of Medical Research used clove oil, ylang ylang oil, and nutmeg oil on two different types of mites. The clove oil killed all the mites within 15 minutes, according to the study’s authors. Dr. Cielo Pasay explained that they also tested eugenol, a component that makes up 80 percent of glove oil, and other related compounds. They found that “they were comparable to an existing treatment for scabies, and could assist the development of new treatments for this irritating and disfiguring disease.” Existing treatments for scabies include topical acaricides such as 5% permethrin, while more severe forms of the disease requires both topical and oral treatment with ivermectin. Research indicates an increasing tolerance of scabies mites to permethrin because of its widespread use. Such resistance makes finding a new effective treatment more critical. “Our research aims to identify naturally occurring compounds that can combat scabies and prevent resistance from occurring,” noted Pasay. Use of clove oil for scabies appears to be an effective treatment for the itchy disease. However, everything that that person has been in contact with needs to be treated as if it also is infected with scabies.
