Guest guest
Hi and everybody else, I have PCOS and it is a nightmare! It's one of the main reasons that I decided to have WLS. After struggling with my weight for so long my Dr. told me that it would be almost impossible for me to lose weight because of my PCOS and also that I'm insulin resistant (a side effect of PCOS. Not everybody has it though). I have a lot of the other nasty side effects as well. My periods are six weeks long and very heavy. I have facial hair that I have to remove every other week. My hair started falling out a couple of years ago. I don't ovulate. I haven't been able to get pregnant after many years of trying. It's a yucky thing to mess with. When I first got my band I was so excited when I dropped my first 20 lbs fast. I thought FINALLY I'll beat this disease. But I now haven't lost one pound since July 4th. Not one pound and I'm on my second fill. I have 8.7 cc's in a 10 cc band and still no loss. I'm starting to panic that because of my PCOS that the band isn't going to work for me. I've talked to several women on Obesity Help that have PCOS and they've been able to lose their weight it just comes off a lot slower. So I'm still trying to have hope. I'm on 2000 mg of Metformin which is a diabetic medicine that they use to help treat PCOS. It's a helped my periods some and my hair is slowly growing back in but it hasn't really helped with the weight loss. Anyway let me know if you have any quesitons. Good luck! Guest guest
>>I want to thank you guys for giving me some hope with this PCOS business. I have been diagnosed with PCOS for almost 10 years. I had two daughters and I feel very blessed. The birth control pills helped me to have my daughters....even though it took four years between them. I conceived my second daughter a month after I had lost 15 pounds. So, in my experience, even a 15 pound loss resulted in ovulation and conception. Keep the faith. Guest guest
Okay, I have read several of the articles on PCOS. However, I am NOT of child bearing age! Every article I have read talks about young women of child bearing age. I am 53 and post menopausal. So I don't understand how this would apply to me. I am baffled as to why he would think of this for me; unless he is thinking outside the box, but I read the list of symptoms and I don't really fit. Oh, well, when I see him march 3rd, and I have my blood tests and hopefully my saliva tests results, I will delve into this with him. C. Guest guest
Thanks, Lori! I do have excessive weight gain and obesity, prior to menopause I did have very heavy periods that were irregular at times, and at other times were quite regular; I do have skin tags, although they are very small, but I have low to normal cholesterol, no acne, no libido problems (to bad DH does, lol!), no brown skin patches unless you count freckles, lol, never been checked for ovarian cysts, and don't have excessive facial or body hair. I do have exaustion and some lack of mental alertness, but I am also severely insomniac, so that could be responsible for some of it. Like I said, I will be talking with Dr. Bain on my follow-up visit Saturday. Guest guest
, I only started going to him last June and it took me several months to really trust him, or at least his judgment. Not because I didn't think he was a fine doctor, but after doing so much research on my own, I was convinced I knew more than he did! I'm much better now, however. Guest guest
Ian, I and a few others on here have been helped immensly by a product called Roach Prufe. It is a powder that is put all over your house. You dont clean it up, you just leave it down. This would be a very easy thing for your parents to do. You can do a search from the home page on either Roach prufe, or Rita. You will find lots of information on it. It can be bought at Ace hardware, or ordered online. Guest guest
Ian, if you do decide to buy the Roach Prufe we ordered ours direct from the manufacturer - Copper Brite. They have a phone no on their web site and it is not a free call nor do they advertise they sell direct, but my husband called them and they sold us 2 cases (24 1# cans) for $135. and change. This was also prepaid freight included. They do not accept credit cards but I mailed them a check and ours arrived in less than a week. I don't think they had even had time to get our check before they shipped it. They were very nice to deal with but said the price on their product was going to go up - did not say how much - but what we got ours for was cheap enough for me. Guest guest
A person can never be ready being struck w/ this pestilence. We have no idea what to do in the very beginning, we scour these types of forums looking for answers, get extremely overwhelmed, get very discouraged, and start doing trial and error based on what other members recommend. After awhile, we all develop our own protocols and rituals which take the stress off a bit compared to the very beginning but exhausting and stressful nonetheless. I'm almost at month 5 and have spent $3000+. This is nothing compared to ppl who's been here longer. I would gladly fork over $10000-20000 in the very beginning and even throw out most of my belongings like clothes and furniture if that meant I didn't have to go through w/ what I'm going through (No I don't have all that cash lying aruond you get the idea). Instead, we want to try to salvage as much as possible at first, but slowly come to realization that some things are just not worth keeping and we start throwing things out. At the end of a major cleaning session, you're saddened by all the valuables or sentimental items you threw out, but you're also amazed at how much junk you've managed to cling onto for all these years and in some ironic sense feel liberated. I'm at a point that besides some of the furniture I kept, all the stuff I bought related to this take up more space than the amount of material belongings I have left. If someone new to all this used roach prufe and eradicated them all say in a month or two, the cost and pain are very minimal. I'll gladly spend the $135. We still have not found the silver bullet but could this be it? It truly saddens me when I see a new name on this forum. But I sure hope we're at least making some progress with our findings of what works and what doesn't so ppl after us can benefit from it. > > > > It sounds like some people here have had success with PCOs.
