I find that when using computers, it is OBVIOUS to me just how draining, etc it is. The cell phone really isn't " obvious " to me in how I feel. (Like today, just moving the computer back was a DREAMATIC difference.) Wear a pendant - is the one I'm wearing " enough " or would you suggest wearing 2. I know/think mine does " something " becasue I feel worse without it; also I felt worse and then realized I hadn't charged it for a while and then did and felt better..... > > > Would it help for me to turn my > > phone off as much as possible > > Yes, it would, because when it's turned on, I > believe > it's still occasionally communicating with a > cellphone > tower. (I guess because when I am using the ocmputer it causes SUCH symptoms!) Usuing the cell phone all I can notice is maybe feeling a " little " drained? I knew TV and computers bothered me even when I was a very little elementary school kid and never heard of EMF or any of that. I would have never known cell phones were a " problem " if I hadn't read it. So is there a way to tell when which is " better " when your body isn't being clear on cell phone stuff? > > > So, I was 17 inches from the monitor, now am 26.5. > Is > > that significant. The refresh rates - why would a lower one be better? I was under the impression that you wanted it as high as it could go (I have mine set to 100). When mine was set at 60, I could actually see the screen flicer and could hardly tolerate it. Why would the lower resoulution help? I could try that.....doesn't the lower resolution make everything bigger? > If you are using a flat LCD monitor, then I don't > this will help. Should I put any kind of shielding around the computer? What about my laptop? I like to have a regular plug in one so that it rings and keeps ringing; I will just put it outside in the hall - that should be pretty far away. I will also put my cell phone on the charger out in the different room, not right next to my bed! Is it bad if you are sleeping NEAR a thing that is turned off but not unplugged. Say a TV or Copmuter. > > > Wireless internet?! I didn't realize that was a > > problem?! I have that at my house! Yikes. > > That could be a big problem. Well, right now my laptop when I have it look for wireless networks only sees mine; so doesn't seem like any neighbors have any or at least no tstrong ones since my cmoputer can't pick up on it. Would turining it off when I'm not using it be a good step until I can figure out something else? (Another person uses a desktop computer that is connenctedc by wireless because its in a room that doesn't have a direct wire connection, and really would be tough to shuffle rooms. > > Marc > __________________________________________________

In the beginning, I just used longer cords to my monitor and keyboard, so the CPU was far away from me (6+ feet). However, after using stuff from Quantum Products (Quantum Byte software and Quantum power strip), that no longer is necessary, and at work I have the CPU sitting right next to the monitor. > Is there anything that can be done about the > florescent lights at work? I have found that the stuff from Quantum Products work for these. Especially if you've got a power pole that goes into the ceiling -- plug in a power strip into the pole, and that helps, although it did not *solve* the problem. I actually was able to unscrew a few of the florescent lights in the area, but unfortunately my neighbors still wanted the one turned on that's very close to me. The stronger products (e.g., Quantum Pro) work even better for florescent lights. > How big of a deal do you > think that is. I do not know if it is more an issue > because it bothers me visually rather than > electriclaly. I don't have any experience with visual problems with florescent lights -- my problems all seemed to be electrical. I suppose if you could convince someone to replace the bulbs with full-spectrum florescent lights, that might help. Marc
Guest guest
> Any ideas here on how to " tell " ? I find that when > using computers, it is OBVIOUS to me just how > draining, etc it is. Ahhh, well for me, my reaction to cellphones is rather immediate, so it's easy for me to tell. Another way to tell for things that aren't so obvious is " muscle testing " (aka " Applied Kinesiology " ), but that usually requires a professional. At least at first... it can also be self-taught, as there are books on the subject. > Wear a pendant - is the one I'm wearing " enough " or > would you suggest wearing 2. I know/think mine does > " something " becasue I feel worse without it; also I > felt worse and then realized I hadn't charged it for a > while and then did and felt better..... At one point in time, I was using 6 EMF protection devices all at once (!), but eventually I tried to reduce things down to a bare minimum. So yes, you can certainly experiment around, but I would suggest trying something different altogether than getting 2 Bioelectric Shields. Or look into the stronger (and more expensive) Bioelectric shields. You can find quite a range of Bioelectric Shields at: http://advancedliving.com/ > Hm....again I have a hard time with that because I > dont feel TERRIBLE from the phone. (I guess because > when I am using the computer it causes SUCH symptoms!) I'd focus for now on what is causing you the most symptoms (the computer). You want to keep it above 60 (or even 70) to prevent flicker. However, anything higher than 70-75 is unnecessary for flicker. The reason why lowering it may help is that many people are more sensitive to higher frequencies, so by lower the resolution or lowering the refresh rate, you are exposed to lower frequencies. > Why would the lower resoulution help? I could try > that.....doesn't the lower resolution make everything > bigger? Yes, it does. This means you can also read the monitor when you are further away from it! :-) > Any advantages to trying to get a flat LCD monitor? LCD monitors put out different frequencies than the tubes, however, today's technology all have florescent lights in them, so it may make you more sensitive to florescent lights (it did with me) > Should I put any kind of shielding around the > computer? They do sell those glass radiation shields, which can redirect some of the energy away from you, but I found these to be about as effective as a Bioelectric Shield (i.e., not very) > What about my laptop? Anything to make that " better " ? Some people like laptops better, some don't. They have the advantage that they can be run off batteries, which some people find more tolerable, but the CPU and hard drive are much closer to you, which can make them worse for you than a computer that you can place several feet away. > Is it bad if you are sleeping NEAR a thing that is > turned off but not unplugged. Say a TV or Copmuter. Some say it is. Even when turned off, an EMF meter will still register a reading. Guest guest
Hi , You moved your monitor from 17 " to 26.5 " . From the inverse square law, as 17 squared = 289 and 26.5 squared = 702, the radiation should have reduced by a factor of 2.43. So you've reduced it by well over half - a good start! Maybe it's not so surprising that you felt you noticed a difference. Ian --- R wrote: So, I think I posted in another post that I was able to move my computer back so it is about 1.5 times further away. So how would this affect the radiation? It wasn't twice as far to make it 25% of original radiation.....so what would it be? _____
Guest guest
I don't know what the exact reading is as the needle is pushing past the 100 mark on the Trifield meter. Whatever gauge the TriField is measured by that's what it is. It's on the Magnetic 0-3 range. When it's high like that I feel as if my insides are popping, literally and I can actually hear the popping sound of it. It is after these times of extreme emf that I have now begun to ache all over, and it now affects my back and spine. It's all over the house, worst near the front window of the lounge and upstairs front bedroom, I guess because it's the nearest point to the electric cables that are about 15' away under the pavement. I've found the floor is very high and walls at these times. Guest guest
That is helpful to know. That means that it is really around 3 or 4 milligauss. When you have the black knob selector set to 0-3, that means to read the middle line and that also means you are getting 3 or 4 milligauss, not 100mG. Turn the selector one click to the left and read the top line magnetic field readings and see what you get. I too am sensitive to 1 or 2 mG. I can feel them down to around .02 mG in my bed. Is this reading all over your house or only in certain locations? Guest guest
If you have the meter set on the 0-100 setting and not the 0-3 mG setting and you are getting 100 mG in the location, then get out. That is ridiculous and incredible. Research has shown that regular exposures of 2-3mG increase cancer at least 50%. Who knows what a constant 100mG reading would do other than Leukemia and various other maladies. Guest guest
Hey Maureen, Don't let it bother if you don't get replies. I didn't even see this till today. Sometimes the msgs. don't come in my box at all, sometimes I get doubles, sometimes two days show up at once, so I'm sure others have that trouble too, and they may just get missed at times. Of course I don't answer if I haven't anything to say either. Those things in your teeth, is it suppose to just be fillings? Maybe I missed something in reading, I mentioned I'd want them out, but they don't look like the ones I've seen in my teeth. Hope you find something quick, maybe some of the protective clothing for underneath your outerwear. I know it's been mentioned on here. Not cheap, but maybe give you more protection than what you've got right now? ~ Snoshoe > > --- Original Message ----- > >> > >> On Feb 14, 2006, at 10:44 AM, m.a.norman wrote: > >> > >>> Thank you for your reply, your're the only one who has bothered > >>> to do so. It would be nice to have all the messages related to a post follow the original message. All posted as original ans RE responses makes it difficult to follow along. Guest guest
, , Wallace, It is true what Dr. Cheney said about the late 80s peak and then declines...he showed me the charts, and so far, I believe it. I would tend to defer to a World Specialist who has lived and breathed this disease every day since early 80s. I also experienced/lived it. What many people are calling CFS today simply is not what exploded in the 80s...ME/CFS. And still disables the same millions, world-wide. Which does have aspects that relate to other diseases, but has very specific types of patterns and multiplicity that are unique. { I just heard from a ME/CFS former #1 activist who told me that out of 4,000 patients encountered, only ONE is known to have returned to work. There may be others not heard from, but this fits what I have observed, and is reported by most of the original CFS Specialists.} Where the differences lie, in my opinion, is what exact disease are we talking about? Due to the expansion/watering down of the CDC definition...and the erroneous assumptions made about who the original naming referred to...plus increasing illnesses in general...there now are multiple illnesses/conditions diagnosed, or self-diagnosed under the umbrella of " CFS " . I believe that many of the polarizations that occur, on cause and cure, are that we are simply not talking or living the same thing. We have bought what the Media, Shrinks, and Society have bombarded us with...allowed or perpetuated by the CDC. That {ME}CFS was/is a wastebasket diagnosis and not a real disease in itself. Just a cluster of symptoms. (The term CFS and " CFS-like " sneaked into the CDC's and others language around 2001, and is now officially used in most " CFS " studies we see...further obscuring things for everyone). While there may be multiple triggers, and certainly many aspects shared by other diseases, most long term patients and Researchers do not share that view.( the more generic). However, most of them never were or are no longer posting on internet groups. While there are still original members of this group subscribed or reading, virtually none are posting, for various reasons. Because we are speaking of multiple system damage, pathogens and environmental factors; the modern Human Body in distress/disease, is why we can benefit from all being together on various lists, addressing various theories and treatment plans. But I believe and observe that we on " CFS " lists are a much more mixed population than in previous years. Whether anyone agrees or not, this might be something to consider when extreme polarizations occur....on cause, cure, and management. One person's opionion, tho shared by others not posting... Guest guest
Just got a note yesterday from a doctor. He started treating cfs patients in 1991. In 2002 he says he found that 90% of his cfs patients test positive for borrelia. Many, many of us who have been sick for years have found that we are infected with diagnosable and potentially treatable bacteria. This could explain the apparent decline in cfs. Of course, in this same time frame there has been a huge increase in diagnosed Lyme disease. I became sick in 1995, but had symptoms of some sort of arthritis since 1972. I know several patients who were sick in the 1980's with something. It is important to note that any of us who found we were infected with something, say mycoplasma or borrelia, would never go to Dr. Cheney for treatment - not that I don't find his research fascinating and brilliant, but he misses the point in cases like mine and possibly 90% of others. a Carnes

Which is really stupid, given the number of other things that follow in the immune system cascade that proceeds from CFS. In my case, that cascade of things-that-followed includes hypothyroid, adrenal insufficiency, depression, hormonal irregularities, and a wide range of secondary infections. To the CDC's way of thinking, being diagnosed with any of these negates my CFS diagnosis -- as though the symptom caused the initial disease. The Canadian Criteria, on the other hand, make it very clear that there's a long list of stuff that's secondary to (and probably caused or encouraged by) the original disease, and should not be construed as causal nor eliminate the patient from CFS diagnosis. Guest guest
a, Sounds like you had a Lyme-like infection in the 70s, but it was not activated until 95, right when the cell towers went up. This also happened to me, I got a lyme-like infection in the 80s, and it was activated in the mid 90s a few months after the towers went up. I am sure there are many, many other co-factors, but believe that Lyme and EMF are partners in crime. --Kurt Re: EMF Just got a note yesterday from a doctor. He started treating cfs patients in 1991. Guest guest
Lots of us probably got tickbites unbeknownst to us, in the late 70's and early 80's, as lyme spread. The question is what was the triggering factor for getting REALLY sick? Mine was a second tickbite that probably had tons more creepy bugs in it, since over the last couple decades, ticks started to carry more and more coinfections. Multiple bites, finally collapsing the immune system, may be the case for others. And for still others, the lyme itself could have been percolating, downregulating immunity until the system collapsed under the weight. That for example sounds like author Wells' story, where she had bronchitis and other stuff for a while before becoming so ill she couldn't function. > > a, > > Sounds like you had a Lyme-like infection in the 70s, but it was not > activated until 95, right when the cell towers went up. Guest guest
Kurt, Here are more likely triggers following the exposure to borrelia in 1972. Further tick bites. Mycoplasma infection with walking pneumonia. Airplane trip to Europe Working in a mold contaminated building How close to a cell tower would one have to be? I lived in a small town and don't recall any towers anywhere around in the mid 90s. a
Guest guest
Sara, I have a very strong suspician that the Insurance Companies had there hand in creating the criteria for the diagnosis used for CFS in the USA - since they realize that this epidemic could in fact bankrupt their companies. Dr. Gerald Goldberg is predicting that within the next 5-6 years the health-care systems of most industrialied countries will collapse. I have a feeling that he is right. paul > > > \ Of course, in this same time frame there has been a huge increase > > in diagnosed Lyme disease. > > > > <> and according to the CDC if you are diagnosed with any other > > condition than it precludes you from being diagnosed with CFS. Guest guest
> How close to a cell tower would one have to be? I lived in a small town and > don't recall any towers anywhere around in the mid 90s. a, that's a difficult question to answer since I believe different people to different levels of microwave radiaiton. I saw an experiment here in Japan where I doctor used a Foma cell phone (by DoCoMo) and held it up and walked toward a woman who had her eyes closed. As he got closer the women sensed something and fell backwards. Women, generally, seem to be more sensitive to the microwave radiation than men. (This might also explain why more women get CFS than men.) Also, different towers emit different amounts of radiation. Japan uses short-range, American uses mid-range, and Europe uses long-range antennas. Naturally, Europe's antennas are stronger since they have to emit further. In 1996, cell phones towers were put up about every 10 square miles across the majority of the USA - which would place that in the mid 90s. Please read the following, EMF Killing Fields, by Arthur Firstenburg: http://www.mindfully.org/Technology/2004/Electromagnetic-Fields-EMF1jun04.htm _ " But in July 1996, to my dismay, I learned that an innovation was coming to my city, which threatened to make it impossible to avoid exposure any more. At that time, cell phones were still a luxury item that only worked in some locations. People were not accustomed to staying connected whenever they left their home, and even at home most still had a cord, not an antenna, attached to their telephone. Most were not accustomed to holding devices that emit microwave radiation next to their brain. In 1996, the telecommunications industry began a marketing campaign designed to change all that. For Christmas that year, all over the country, digital cell phones were going to be on a lot of shopping lists. And to make them more practical, tens of thousands of antennae were going to be erected on towers, buildings, church steeples and lampposts all over the country before Christmas, and hundreds of thousands more during the next few years._ " " _.....on November 14 1996, Omnipoint, New York City's first digital cellular provider, did open for business, broadcasting from thousands of antennae newly erected on the rooftops of apartment buildings. According to the health authorities, an early flu hit New York City - but not Boston, and not Philadelphia - on about 15 November. The flu was severe and ran a prolonged course, often dragging on for months instead of the usual two weeks. At Christmas time, the Cellular Phone Task Force placed a small classified ad in a free weekly newspaper. It read: 'If you have been ill since 11/15/96 with any of the following: eye pain, insomnia, dry lips, swollen throat, pressure or pain in the chest, headaches, dizziness, nausea, shakiness, other aches and pains, or flu that won't go away, you may be a victim of a new microwave system blanketing the city. We need to hear from you.' And we did hear from them. Hundreds called, men, women, whites, blacks, Asians, Latinos, doctors, lawyers, teachers, stockbrokers, airline stewards, computer operators. Most had woken up suddenly in mid-November, thinking they were having a stroke or a heart attack or a nervous breakdown, and were relieved to know they were not alone and not crazy. Later, I analysed weekly mortality statistics, which the Centres for Disease Control publish for122 US cities. Each of dozens of cities recorded a 10-25 per cent increase in mortality, lasting two to three months, beginning on the day in 1996 or 1997 on which that city's first digital cell phone network began commercial service...._ " " _...I learned that in February 1996, Congress had passed a law prohibiting local governments from denying permits for cell phone antennae because of environmental concerns - so long as they comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. I also learned that the FCC had just issued regulations setting public exposure limits for microwave radiation at levels at least ten thousand times higher than levels which, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, were causing reports of illness from all over the world. Levels that are at least ten thousand times higher than the levels that had forced me to leave behind my home, my family, and my friends, and to run for my life, never to be able to return home again....._ "
