I have been taking iron for the past 3 months and it still has not gone up. For the past 3 weeks my PCP has had me doubling up on the iron. I got my lab results about 5 minutes ago and they are even lower. I am a bit frustrated. I will speak to Dr. R about this when I see him if I don't email him before that. Guest guest
Joni, Let me know please what you find out. My doc did not seem overly concerned or anything, but I wonder about taking all these vits and iron supps and still being low. B. Guest guest
Hi Bee My hemoglobin was low 7.7 because of vaginal bleeding ( bled for 3 weeks in May) stop for two weeks and then again bled for 1 1/2 week. The doctor gave me iron, and I took it for two days on the second day I was very constipated and my kidneys were hurting. I read on the side effects that it can cause kidney problems. I haven't had my kidneys checked. The doctor wanted to do a CT Scan to check my organs because I've been having a lot of bloating and problems with the intestines they found cysts in the uterus and the ovaries. I want to know what the problem is but at the same time I am kind of skeptical to some tests. Is there a good accurate way to diagnose this problems or do I have to go through those tests? About the iron I bought a natural iron from the health food store and I am eating food that has iron. The doctors wanted to do a blood transfusion but I didn't want that. Some people has told me that you can raise the iron by eating foods high in iron and with natural supplements. Doctors say you have to take their iron and the pill to soften the stools. I am a confused here. Your comment will be appreciated. Ileana
Guest guest
Hi Ileana, Welcome! I'm not Bee but I suffered from your condition to the point I was bleeding to death from my uterine fibroids. I couldn't do yard work because I'd spontaneously begin to bleed heavily and Hubby would have to rush me to the hospital to have a D & C to stop the bleeding. The last time they " put me under " to do it. The last thing my anesthetist asked me was, " Do you know what can happen? " I answered, " I may die. " Now, I'm so healthy I haven't had to see my Doctor for over 2 years. (probably longer but who's counting ) Iron pills are hard on the kidneys *and* cause constipation. Natural ones can be made by cutting liver into pill size pieces and freezing. Sorry, I don't know the dosage on that because I've *never* had to take them. Bee's program has kept me well without them. To help your kidneys, drink parsley tea. Boil 2 quarts of filtered water. Drop in a bunch of rinsed, organic parsley. Simmer or let steep for 10 -20 mins. Throw out the parsley and drink the tea. 1 to 3 cups per day or freeze it and put a cubes in your drinks at home. There is a search function both on Bee's main site and on the groups. Just type in what you want to know: http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/ / Nan >Low hemoglobin Posted by: " ileanagarciadiaz " ileanagarciadiaz@... ileanagarciadiaz Sun Jul 5, 2009 8:01 pm (PDT) Hi Bee My hemoglobin was low 7.7 because of vaginal bleeding ( bled for 3 weeks in May) stop for two weeks and then again bled for 1 1/2 week.
