Fat Intake

Fat should make up about 20% of your diet. If you're eating 1,500 calories a day

(pretty average) that would mean you could have about 5-7g of fat at each of

your six meals. You could add a few almonds, some sunflower seeds, a little

avocado, a little peanut butter (really watch the portions though!). Or, you

could just make a point of getting one good serving of healthy fat - a

tablespoon of flax oil or olive oil, a piece of salmon.

I have heard the on BFL you should only have one good fat per day.

Is this true. I did not read this in either the BFL book or the EFL

book so I wasn't sure if anyone else had anymore info. I started

this 2 weeks ago and I feel great so far. Thanks for making a group

like this.

Most protein and carb balanced meals will come close to that 5-7g of fat without

your deliberately adding any. You're talking 100 calories with every additional

tablespoon. So I would either think in terms of teaspoons, slivers, and

sprinkles or only add 1 big deliberate serving a day (a tablespoon of flax oil,

a few avocado wedges, a serving of salmon). If you're going to add fat to

several different meals, the serving needs to be pretty small in order to still

come up with a calorie deficit at the end of the day.

Technically, you could have six servings of good fat a day, but they would need

to be teeny. I think that's probably where the advice originated to just have

one serving. Probably safer than trying to split it into suitable portions. I

don't have the book in front of me right now or I'd go back and read exactly

what Bill says about fat. I'm guessing that it's more straight-forward than what

I just said. LOL

Re: fat intake

So, if I have 1 tbsp olive oiil & vinaegar with my salad at lunch and 1 tbsp

peanut butter for one of my snacks...that's cool? So I can eat more that one

serving of good fat per day.

I understand that we all do need some cholesterol to

make our veins supple. However, in all posts, most of

you advise that fat should not be from animal, dairy,

and to take only butter/vco/olive oil. Where then

will the needed cholesterol come from?

Your body makes 90-95% of the cholestral that it requires for every cell to

function properly. If you eat more your body will automatically make less and

maintain the correct balance that your DNA dictates. The system (so called

medical) is starting to admit that they have been all wrong about cholestral for

the past 50 years.

, there are two camps on the fat issue. I personally welcome

animal fats, particularly butter into my diet, but also bacon grease and lard

both in

moderation of course. BTW butter is an animal fat and also a dairy product-

and its one of the good fats.

Enig and Sally Fallon have co-authored several books on the Fat issue-

recommended reading.

You can find them at amazon.com.

The Iphone app is really helping me monitor my ratios throughout the day and

make better decisions on food intake prior to eating by checking ratios first.

I was WAY over eating protein, so I am watching that more closely now. It seems

I am under on fats unless I take more coconut oil.

Is there any harm in taking 8-9 tablespoons of coconut oil to meet the fat

requirements (aside from die-off)?

Thanks,

Amy

+++Hi Amy. You can have as much coconut oil, butter, etc. as you wish. Don't

forget to add your cod liver oil to your fat intake.
