Any success with epilepsy?

Dear Bee and all,

My dear husband has been watching my success with Bee's program and has vowed to

get on it 100% after our vacation at the end of the month. He doesn't have a

gallbladder, which I see is not a barrier as long as he eliminates between meal

snacking and eats the easily digestible fats. 30+ years ago he fell on his head

from 17 feet and after that started having seizures. He's been taking Tegretol

for over 30 years and it controls his major seizures perfectly. He is not

diagnosed with true epilepsy, but his symptoms are very close to this. There

are times he has what I would call absence seizures, he just loses the ability

to communicate and respond normally for a few minutes, but his body continues on

as normal (driving or walking). He's only had a couple of major drop seizures in

his life. We've had several conversations about trying to get off his meds, but

this would mean no driving for 6 months or more, and we can't figure out how

this would be feasible. So, I'm curious if anyone has ever been cured of

seizure disorders on Bee's program. Also, if he elects to remain on Tegretol, I

know this will compromise the outcome, but will he still be able to cure his

candida?

Thank you very much!!

Vicki

Hi Vicki,

There is a lot of scientific evidence of using a ketogenic diet (a diet where

fat is used as the fuel source instead of sugar) to help with epilepsy. It's

been around since the 1920s. If you are interested in articles, I can send you

some.

Our son has had an EEG which showed epileptic activity in his brain. He had

been on Bee's diet for 8 months at the time, so we can't say what kind of

improvements were made since we didn't have before and after tests done. He had

never showed outward signs of epilepsy, but I think his seizures may be petit

mal, where his eyes just flicker and we can't get his attention.

I believe that keeping the body running on fat instead of sugar (ketosis) is

much more healthy for everyone, so it wouldn't hurt for your husband to try it.

He could decrease his medication gradually, so that it wouldn't be so hard on

him. I'm sure Bee could help him out with that.

Good luck!
