Guest guest
Dr.n Whitaker,MD in his newsletter Health & Healing, January 2005 highlighted the benefits of Magnesium supplementation for Asthma. Magnesium is one of the great all purpose supplements that is widely beneficial for so many conditions that it is sometimes overlooked in our scientifically oriented, pharmaceutically influenced world. We have been led to believe that anything good for " too many things " may not be good for anything in skeptical aspersions directed at simple alternative remedies that compete with high price prescription drugs. Magnesium is an essential mineral for cardiovascular function, nervous system impulses and muscular contractions. It works to calm the nervous system and dilate the arteries. Oral, injected and intravenous infusions can dilate the bronchial tubes and ease breathing. His recommendation for daily supplementation is 1000 to 1500 mg per day. A large dose of Magnesium can have a laxative effect, so build up gradually and if you can remember intersperse it throughout the day. If your body is short of magnesium it probably will be sopped up quickly without the laxative effect.Your body has a self regulating mechanism to take what elements are needed and simply get rid of any excess. I always try to recommend also getting your magnesium from foods high in this nutrient-which occurs with so many other healthy nutrients your body needs such as peanuts, sunflower seeds, cashews and dark leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale. In case of an asthma attack an intravenous infusion of magnesium is the best therapy. Intravenous and injectible magnesium will require administration by a doctor, those familiar with alternative medicine may be more receptive to using this therapy.
