Guest guest
congratulations. my first anniversary was feb 6. down 50 and about 35 or so to go. slow but sure is my motto also!! and things never stay the same. i posted recently that my band is now more active, even tho my last fill was in dec!!! i decided to try my favorite pasta dish at my favorite restaurant. i had told myself that pasta doesnt work. but alas, it did, i ate so slowly my date was yawning....and i only at about a third of it! so i am going to tell myself that it did not work, and i cannot eat it but every now and then and very carefully. Guest guest
Thanks!Congrats to you as well! I can eat pasta, but very small amounts. I try to avoid chicken and beef cuts in restaurants because you never know how tough they will be. I think I am at a good place now. I can eat fish, well-cooked veggies, tender chicken and filet mignon at home. All small amounts and well-chewed. I take home a lot of food. Still can't eat before 11 am and still need hot beverages before. Oh well. > >Today is my first anniversary being banded. It has been a very big > >learning experience and still learning! Guest guest
This sounds good, as long as you can meet the protin, fiber, etc needs. i can never meet the fiber needs without a good fiber cereal in the morning, for breakfast, nor the calorie minimums in less than 3 small meals plus 2 plnned snacks a day. What is your solution to these dilemmas? sounds like you're getting the needed iron in, with the red meat if you can have it 3-4x a week, as well as turkey and pork. good for you! Many of us are not meeting iron needs and more and more women are becoming anemic. Anyone wanting more info on Bandster iron needs, please see the " Iron " document in the files here. Guest guest
For me, not speaking for anyone else with similar issues of not eating in morning: No problems with the protein through the other meals, whether meat, fish, and an occasional protein drink in the morning. Fibers I get through one of my snacks: Mini-shredded-wheats, dry, like eating nuts or something. Can't eat many at a time, or they'll get stuck, but chewed well when well hydrated they serve as both a snack and fiber ration (welll, part of it, not all of it). Gail has just found some other kind that is even higher fiber, but haven't tried it yet. As to timing, I'll have my " breakfast " about 11 or so, a snack a couple hours later, my " lunch " about 3, often a snack, then supper about 7. Go to bed by ten to get up at 5 the next day. Sure, there are variations due to various obligations, etc, but can usually work those out. If I'm a little short on calories or protein or fiber for one day, I don't worry about it. Of course if that goes on for several days, it is a problem, just the same as if I ate high calorie junk for a few days. I do allow myself a " bit of junk " on occasion, since I'm human. On Wed it was ice cream (and not low fat kind) at a restaurant after dinner of some steelhead, grilled, with asparagus and a bit of garlic mashed potatoes. We were celebrating several important events. dan Saturday, March 1, 2008, 6:59:52 PM, you wrote: > This sounds good, as long as you can meet the protin, fiber, etc > needs. i can never meet the fiber needs without a good fiber cereal > in the morning, for breakfast, nor the calorie minimums in less than > 3 small meals plus 2 plnned snacks a day. Guest guest
I will tell you what I think is the key to the iron- which was 9.5 just before surgery and 13.2 when I donated blood in December: Flintstones chewable vitamins! I take two a day per doctor's direction and have seen my iron level go up as it has not been up in 20 years. I tried all kinds of iron supplements over the years and they made me nauseous. If I eat yogurt in the morning, I add some Unjury protein powder and sometimes a tablespoon of granola. If I am feeling a little tight, I throw some Unjury into my coffee or tea to boost the protein for the day. I do eat cheese and eggs on a limited basis and I like my coffee and tea light, so I am picking up some protein there. Fiber is always an issue. I find I have to really keep up with my water. I buy V8 diet fusion and add it to my water bottle- about 1/3 fusion to 2/3 water. Benefiber can also be added to beverages- I called the manufacturer- it doesn't bulk up. I'm trying to get more variety in. Chunky soups for lunch, chili with lots of vegetables. I'm all for having a snack at times. As I may have said before, My goal was to be able to eat normally- 2 cookies instead of half a bag, a scoop of ice cream but not a whole pint! > > > >Today is my first anniversary being banded. Guest guest
Skinny, the Flintstones vits have no more iron than a good adult vit, plus the adult vits have all the needed trace elements that kid's vits do not. check the Flintstones against a complete aduly Vit like the Centrum Chewables, and you'll see the differeence. I'm not a big fan of Benefiber - none of the supplemnents promote our weigh loss as fiber FOODS do, and none are as beneficial to our gut as real food is, despite what they may clam. The supplements are ok if we absolutely cannot meet fiber needs any other way, but are very expensive. If we have a well-filled band that is not too tight, we can eat enough to meet or calorie and nutrition needs pretty easily.
