Guest guest
Dear Ms. Koslow, I was interested to see your recent article entitled "My Brand New Breasts". I wish that I had had a similar, happy outcome as a result of this surgery, but unfortunately, this was not the case for me. Eight months after the initial implantation, I began suffering strange and bizarre health symptoms, including the inability to concentrate, chronic, unrelenting fatigue, and other more serious signs of neurological and immune system impairment. I had not been told that this was a risk from this surgery, but indeed, it was, and it destroyed my happy life. I can tell you now that the true risks of breast augmentation surgery are not being adequately covered by doctors. I am grateful that you included an extra sidebar of warnings in your article; however, I do think that a more indepth story about someone who has suffered devastating health consequences after going through this surgery would provide a much needed balance to the perception that exists in this country that breast augmentation is really pretty safe. The truth is that not only do we suffer physically, but we also suffer emotionally as well, when those around us do not believe we are as sick as we really are. The damage to the immune system is real. The struggle with fatigue is real. The emotional pain is real. The long, lonely climb back to health is real. We get overlooked as everyone rushes gleefully into this surgery. Please consider sharing our stories.
