Guest guest
Hi Sue, The overprescription of antacids to treat acid reflux creates a possible real danger. Very often the " acid reflux " symptom is caused by INSUFFICIENT ACID and the doctor never confirms if it is necessary. The stomach was meant to digest food in an acid medium. If digeation is incomplete in the stomach, when food is attempting to pass into the small intestine, the small intestine sees it is incompletely digested and rejects it--or shoots it back into the stomach and sometimes this backs up the esophagus--leaving an acid feeling. If this is the only indicator diagnosing acid reflux, treating with an Ant-acid will only aggravate the underlying problem of insufficient acid, by neutralizing the little acid that is produced. Measuring and confirming digestive acid is painful and costly. Some symtoms of Low Stomach Acid are bloating, belching, burning after meals, feeling full. Thin and brittle fingernails, poor hair quality and hair loss broken capillaries and more. Dr.Bruce West,MD recommends a cheap easy alternative. Try taking 1 tablet of Zypan, a Betaine Hydrochloride, Pepsin and pancreatic enzyme combination digestive supplement from Standard Process Laboratories. If digestion feels the same or improves slightly increase to 2 tablets per meal. In the RARE instance of a burning or tingling sensation, this is a sign it may be an ulcer or severe gastritis-usually caused by long term antacid use and this must be corrected first. Dr.West has a good website www.healthalert.com with detailed protocols for Reflux and other conditions. If your child had Low Stomach acid naturally building up to Using a healthy diet with food combining can normalize stomach acid. If not addressed this digestive problem can lad to a whole cacade of problems brought on by lack of assimilation of nutrients-in other words eventual starvation of the body. All from a simple antacid. arnold
