Guest guest
Carol, Thanks for the information. I contacted my neurologist today (seems like he should know that he shouldn't prescribe Xanax and an anti-seizure drug at the same time but he seems to think I have two problems going on at once -- panic disorder and complex partial seizures. Anyway, since the Keppra wasn't working anyway, he is having me go off of it and is increasing the Xanax to .5 mg. 3 X a day. I've only had one grand mal seizure in my lifetime and that was about seven years ago. I truly believe that the " episodes " I have about three times a day are panic attacks due to stress and anxiety, although when I was hooked up to the EEG for two days at the hospital they were diagnosed as having spikes and (something?) consistent with seizures. I hope the new medication system helps. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my letter. Phyllis

Guest guest
Dear Phyllis, I've learned lots from the people in these e-mail groups. One of the most interesting things to me was that axiety/panic attacks are common with epilepsy. Now I know that, if I'm experiecing unusually heightened anxiety, I am having heightened seizure activity as well. This isn't theory in my life -- my family has verified it. I just wanted to caution you about the Xanax because I had a doctor prescribe it for me, and at least two doctors have suggested that it caused status epilepticus for me. I didn't know that I had epilepsy at the time -- I thought I was having a nervous breakdown! My doctor at the time didn't have the foresight to recommend an MRI or EEG, and I suffered immensely. I have found that taking magnesium and B vitamins helps prevent the sense of anxiety that used to overtake me. My only reason for mentioning this is that it may give you some relief, too. Best wishes, Carrol Red91tbird@... wrote: Carol, Thanks for the information. Guest guest
Dear Marilyn, I take 1200 mg of " Mag Glycinate " by Metagenics at bedtime, along with my calcium. My nutritionist has also recommended " Cenitol " by Metagenics. Two scoops in a glass of water/juice, etc., provide 200 mg of magnesium and 4 grams of inositol. She wants me to take it twice a day. Cenitol is formulated specifically to support the nervous system. I'm just getting started on the Cenitol, so I'll have to let you know later if it's helping or not. The Mag Glycinate makes a dramatic difference in how well I sleep. My doctor has me injecting 1 cc of B-12 once a week, and has also prescribed a sublingual B-complex that I take daily. (The prescription doesn't say how much of which B vitamins are in the sublingual.) When I'm not at home or accidentally run out of the B-complex, I take " B-Complex " 100 " " by Solgar. It works pretty well, but sometimes can upset my stomach, so I'm careful to take it with a meal. I hope that helps! Best wishes, Carrol foxhillers@... wrote: Carrol I am in the process of increasing Charlie's Mg..... if I may ask, how much of what kind of Mg do you take and how much B complex?
