Keeping the seizures at bay with calcium/magnesium etc

Hi Deborah,

First let me state that it has never been determined *what* kind of

activity Jack's spells constitute. All we have been able to figure out

is that he is sensitive to weather fronts, to many foods, to molds and

dust, to un-friendly people.

When he goes over some thresh-hold determined by a falling barometric

reading or elevated dewpoint which indicates tornadic activity, he

suffers mightily, bites down on towels and has spasms in his limbs and

torso. During such times, his actions resemble hideous tics.

He also has incontinence during these times. Mostly now it is bladder.

I know that muscle spasms can be considered a seizure. But is this pure

seizure activity? Who knows? No EEG has captured it.

One of his doctors speculates that the weather fronts disturb his

electro-magnetic field and then his neurotransmitters are upset.

Neurontin is given for this state, and yes, this helps his spasms,

especially those which resulted from auditory triggers, like the crying

of a child or the shrill bark of a dog. And neurontin is technically an

anticonvulsant.

Magnesium was prescribed by one of the neurologists for the spasms. He

suggested injections of mag sulfate. Then another suggested a magnesium

complex supplement.

But with trial and error I found that the product made by Vitaline

Formulas (Natural Source on the bottle) which contains calcium and

magnesium oxide, aspartate given in doses of two tabs works the best.

Another helper is a product made by Twinlab called Gaba-Plus which is

Gaba with niacinamide in it, choline too I believe.

Sometimes I give that as well as the cal-mag.

My source for all of this has been NEEDS in Syracuse NY: 800 634 1380

I joined this list to see if I could determine whether Jack's weather

" spells " were seizures and what me might learn to help him.

Cornelia
