Sha,

Are you getting any kind of medical guidance regarding giving your

daugthter Vitamin B complex? The vitamins might not have anything to do

with why your daughter is having seizures - one way or the other. It

may not be causing the problem. It may not be helping to control the

problem. It all depends upon " why " your daughter is having seizures.

There are many different types of epilepsy. There are many different

causes. When it comes to epilepsy, there is no such thing as a

" one-size-fits-all " solution. I personally found this out the hard way

when I decided it would not hurt for me to skip a few days of taking my

doctor-prescribed Tegretol. I collapsed on day at work in front of a

computer screen. When I woke up I was in an ambulance on the way to a

hospital. That one act of stupidity facilitated the end of a 15 year

carreer in investment banking. Please believe me when I say it is

unwise to try to figure out what's best for yourself or your child

without professional guidance.

Here are some suggestions for your consideration:

1) If you do not have a copy of your daughter's medical record, request

one from your doctor and read what it says.

2) Use the website resources on our group website to get qualified

second opinions from qualified professionals who specialize in treating

epilepsy - . (For

example, s-Reiter ) It costs nothing to have your doctor forward

a copy of your daughter's medical record for their review to another

doctor for a second opinion. Many doctors will give you an assessment

of your daughter's situation for FREE if you just take the time to

request the medical record get sent. Just because the opinion comes

without charge does not mean it is without value. You can learn a great

deal by gathering second opinions from medical professionals.

Knowledge is power. You need expert information. Here is a

cost-effective way to accumulate it.

3) If you have not read the book, Epilepsy: A New Approach, I suggest

you go to the local public library and check it out. It too may provide

you with valuable information you may not already possess.

4) Doctors are imperfect people - just like you and me. They need all

the help they can get when it comes to making the right diagnosis

regarding epilepsy. By keeping a journal on your child - what happens

during a seizure, adverse reactions to drugs, etc. - you provide them

with important information which may prove crucial in helping your

daughter.

When it comes to healthcare, we all need to be looking at the " big

picture. " That means you should be concerned with more than just

halting seizures. You also want to make sure that the means you are

using to halt seizures is not causing other problems. It took me 34

years to discover that taking prescription drugs for the control of gran

mal seizures was doing damage to me in ways that had nothing to do with

epilepsy. That is why I say it is so important to learn and understand

one's epilepsy. Knowing the truth concerning an individual's epileptic

condition is crucial to uncovering the best way to deal with it. The

better informed you are about your child's epilepsy, the better equipped

you are to enhance her overall quality of life.

Good luck.

Dear Sha,

B-complexes can be a problem because of all of the different formulations. Be

sure that what you are using is free of all common allergens: wheat, dairy,

eggs, soy, yeast, etc. Some of the brands are very hard on the stomach, which

would exacerbate seizure activity. I prefer to use a sublingual tincture that I

buy at a compounding pharmacy. That way, it doesn't have to go through the

stomach to be processed, and it seems to agree with me much better than other

products.

Others in this group have mentioned problems with B-6 toxicity, but they will

have to give you information about that, since I don't know much about it. In

the meantime, I hope my comments help a little bit.

Best wishes,

Carrol
